Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

UNOFFICIAL pix of new bike...

[IMG][/IMG]

Can't wait to post it because there maybe some "pix or it never happened" mentality from a couple of posts this past week. And just as the title says, it's "unofficial"

Things to do:

- Take out reflectors
- Take out "dork disc"
- Rip off price tag
- Buy Shimano 105 SPD-SL pedals
- Buy Specialized Comp Road with Boas or Bontrager RL Road Shoes
- Buy bottle cages
- Get final fitting
- Retake official photo under BF "in front of garage" criteria

Depending on what shoes I go with, I may get everything done in 2 weeks if I stick with what is available (Black shoes - Bontrager or Specialized). If I really want White shoes, Then it's just a matter of when it will be availble for pick up. Worse case? By the end of the month.

Things I may optionally buy... It's very tempting to get those GP 4000S in 700x25 right now at PBK so I might just order a couple. Key word - MIGHT. Then it all depends on how compatibe my butt is with the stock Affinity saddle, it may get replaced with either the Romin EVO Expert or the new Paradigm RL.

Another thing too is I know most of you are going to say FLIP AND SLAM IT! Sorry folks, somewhat of a bad neck and shoulder. However, I am going to experiment on flipping the stem during the final fitting. If I'm okay with it, then it will be flipped. If not, then it's for the better.

Well there you go! 2 years in the making. Finally got my road bike. A 54 cm 2012 Madone 5.2.

You're obsessing over what color of shoes to buy, yet you put an aircraft carrier of a saddlebag on there......

Just sayin'

Nice bike.

That is from my mtb. Just wanted to see how it will look. And I've seen worse on more expensive bikes with major bling.

You waited two years to get this bike and you aren't out riding?! Come on it didn't rain yesterday. VERY NICE! Forget the flipping and slamming; proper fit is more important. I think white shoes will get dirty fast and require cleaning time; stick with black. Depending on how many miles you ride, you can wait on tires until the ones on the bike start getting flat. I'm pretty happy with the Schwalbe Duranos that came stock on the Synapse. Rubber does age, so purchasing too far in advance may not be a great ideaand you already have a shopping list.

That seat pack looks like it can hold everything you need for road repairs. I have Topeak medium Aero wedge on both of my bikes. I don't like stuffing metal objects into my jersey pockets for fear of falling having them impaled into my body in the event of a fall, even a zero mph tip over.

I test rode the Madone 5.2 and it was a very nice bike!

Actually the 2 years in the making is more of "getting the wife to say yes. And on 12/12/12, my birthday, she said to get my bike. As far as shopping list, I forgot to add the Bontrager Ant+ Sensor and Node 2.1. The tires I just made a decision not to get anymore until whenever I need to replace the stock one. For the shoes, it's just a matter of visibility factor and to match my white helmet, but I am getting a bit of "desperation mode" and may end up with the black. Which one? Still not sure. The Boas are intriguing, but the Comp does not come with Carbon Soles while the Bontrager does, with replaceable heel - no Boas though.

My friends are more excited than I am. They've been calling me a lot...

Congrats. The Madone 5.2 is a very good bike.

As for a seat bag, take a look at this. It is what I use and I am very happy.

Black shoes...

As for a saddle bag, I have a Specialized Mini-Wedgie on both my bikes. Keep a mini-tool, spare tube, patch kit, tire levers, and a quick link for my chain. Still room to slide my ID and keys in without issue.

Heck yeah with the white shoes. Cycling is all about being flashy "nowadays". Its an all black bike, you can wear whatever color you want.

As for the saddle bag....Throw it away and put your needs in your jersey.

Quit obsessing over shoes. Just get black ones and ride. White is a little to euro-pro for me. Black is simple and traditional. Use stock tires till they can't be used any more. You are wasting time worrying about gear.

Slap some fenders, lights, and panniers on that bad boy and wait for the comments to roll in...

Seriously though, nice bike. Get shoes that are comfortable and that YOU like. Forget everyone else, they don't have to wear your shoes. Also, nothing wrong with the seat bag. Gotta put your stuff somewhere. Not a fan of over stuffed jersey pockets, personally. Ride it!
