Baltimore to New York

I would like to ride from Baltimore to NY, probably split into two days. Anybody have route recommendations?

Do you mean going to NYC?

I don't think you answered his question. Where in NY are you looking for a route to? NYC? Upstate? Long Island? "NY" is a little vague.

Midtown. I would likely just ride to Newark and take the PATH as getting through that stretch is pretty rough, unless routing wide and doing GWB. Another thought I had was riding to Highlands in NJ and taking that ferry. I used to live in Jersey City, Atlantic Highlands, NJ, Metuchen, NJ so I'm pretty familiar with the area.

That's 200 miles in 2 days, with 4000+ feet of climbing in the first day. Plus you will have to carry your gear, which will add at least 20 pounds.

1) Do you have any touring experience?
2) Where's the fire?

Besides, NY has plenty of fire engines.

Yes, I have touring experience. I would likely forward a box of clothes to my hotel as I have a few functions in NY. 200 in two days is easy and 4k in 100 miles is nearly flat. Biggest climbs would likely be in MD, then in PA-up out of the Susquehanna river valley. I would carry my Osprey hydration pack, wore that on a 180 (one day) ride to Ocean City Md from Baltimore. Anyway, back to suggested routes.

I grew up right along that route (Elkton MD/ Newark DE), and would not try anything like it in 2 days. And I did a 180 mile lightning tour of CT and MA in 31 hours in April.

That is the densest urban stretch of North America. If I were to do it, I'd cut down and over the Rt 50 Bridge and over to DE. (not sure about getting a bike over that bridge on a bus or something.)

Then the Lewes-Cape May Ferry and up the Jersey shore, and another ferry from one of those towns on Sandy Hook Bay in NJ up to NYC.

There is a Nat'l Geographic scenic ride up route 9 in Delaware. Nice riding. Used to do my first MS150s there when I was 12. Also, if you can get over to the Eastern Shore, a ride up 213 is also excellent riding.

200 miles w/o gear is pretty do-able in one go if you train for it. Long day. Take the ferry from Sandyhook, NJ and you will glide into the Emerald City and end up near the river bike path. Check ferry policy on bikes, and ferry times since you want the timing to be just right.

I cheated and took the train from Trenton NJ to NYC. Easy one day trip. ;)

Check with Biller's Bikes if they'll ferry you across the bridge on 40. My route was basically 40 to 13.
