Roubaix Expert or Giant Defy Advanced 2? And pricing?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Roubaix Expert or Giant Defy Advanced 2? And pricing?

I'm looking for real first hand experience between these two bikes, both 2012 models with Ultegra.

Roubaix Expert vs Giant Defy Advanced 2

I've ridden the Roubaix, I really like it and it seems like the safe choice for me. But the Giant gets great reviews, and is priced much better for what seems like even specs. I'm in my early 50's and have a dedicated commuting bike. This new bike will be for training and distance events, metrics, centuries, and a double this summer. Looking at a sporty forgiving ride.

And lastly, what should I expect to pay for a new left over 2012 Roubaix Expert?

Thanks

The real answer is: no one can tell you.
I can report that I love my Roubaix with full Ultegra, but that really doesn't help you, does it?

My guess is either one will work fine. Maybe you should choose on color.

I love my Roubaix SL2 with Ultegra. I did change the wheels since it came with boat anchors for wheels from Specialized.

I had the predecessor to the Defy, the carbon OCR, that was very nice and I just got a 2013 Roubaix Elite Compact. I liked the endurance geometry of the Giant, which the Roubaix has, but the Zertz inserts on the Roubaix really do smooth the ride out. The Roubaix is stiffer than my old Giant but I'm sure the new Defy is just as stiff. The one caveat about the Roubaix is that I had to ditch the stock Toupe saddle to get comfortable on the bike (it was way too hard.) I was about to buy a leftover 2012 Roubaix Elite (full 105 version) for $1800 but it sold before I got back from my Thanksgiving vacation. I'm kind of glad I went with the 2013 Roubaix since I really don't care for the white/black/yellow color scheme on the 2012 Roubaix Elite.

Let me preface by saying I have not ridden the Giant. I have a 09 S-Works Roubaix now and just ordered a new 2013 Roubaix Expert to replace it. One thing to look at besides the two bikes is the dealer. Do you have more confidence in one over the other to help you after the sale and to give you a proper fit? That is just as important to me as picking the right bike.

I have the defy advanced 1 and am almost your age, I love it for longer rides.

I've settled on a 2012 Expert. Its the bike I've wanted for several years. The Giant is probly equally nice, I just feel I won't second guess the Roubaix Expert. I have a smoking deal in the works and am excited to pick it up next week. Thanks for the comments!

You may want to test ride the bike first. From what I've read on RBR the SL4 is stiffer than the SL2 Roubaix's and rides more like a Tarmac with some of the edge taken off.
