Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My New Bike

Hi Guys,

I posted a little while ago and asked if a light rider should go with carbon or titanium. In the end, I test rode a carbon bike and loved it. It's an '04 Specialized Roubaix Comp, full Ultegra, stainless steel Speedplay Zeros, and Flight Deck. It came home today and will be going out for it's first offical ride tomorrow. Toronto is going to have a high of 7 degrees Celsius tomorrow, which is absoloutely balmy for this time of year.

I wanted a comfortable all-round bike, with a side interest of doing my first triathlon next year. I think it's quite cool looking! Photo taken by my photographer hubby.

His website is here.

That is one nice looking bike. I'm picking up my new ride tomorrow, a Kuota Kharma with Chorus. It's going to be 56f tomorrow here in NYC and sunny, almost shorts weather.

That what I was going to say. Most indoor photos posted in this forum are using built-in flash, not many photos taken with two flashs, like one bounce off the ceiling and another on the hot shoe.
That made the bike look even more attractive.

Aww. I think I posted in an earlier thread of yours that I own a Roubaix Comp and love it. I had the same idea of getting some colour on it, and have some red Michalin Proraces coming as we speak. That with some red bar tape and a maybe a redish saddle like the red and silver ariones like on the Saeco bikes and I'm there. Unfortunately you beat me to it.

But nah it looks sweet. At least I know mine wont look like trash when I do it. Hope it gives you many (sweet looking) happy miles.

The only down side....black shows dirt easily. You're going to spend a lot of time cleaning that baby. But man, time well spent!

Very nice. The pic looks real good too. Just wondering, how is the bike standing up?

Little bikes are soooo cute! Wish I could say the same about my 62cm.

Still, part of me wishes more smaller frames used 650c wheels. I think the proportions would work out better. Someone needs to do some bars with less drop, too.

It was cold, windy and wet today, so the bike stayed in. In answer to some of the questions:

- the tires are Continental GP3000's
- the handlebars are a women specific design
- I considered 650 wheels, especially with my goal of a triathlon this summer, but in the end, I wanted a road bike first and a triathlon bike a distant second
- the bike was leaning against a table

Thanks to everyone for their nice comments. Hubby is especially pleased with the increased traffic on his site. Here's another picture:

and Hubby's website link again.
