Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

....Really. We get a lot of these types of threads. Felt/Giant/LeMond/Trek, etc... They're all good. Go ride them and find the one that you feel most comfortable riding, LOOKS THE COOLEST, and get it.

If it is your first bike, you won't be able to tell the difference of the geometries, the componentries, the materials, the construction... Get one, ride for 2 years or 10,000 miles or so, then you can take part in a more knowledgeable evaluation of what to get.

The best bike in the world is the one that feels good and makes you want to ride it each and every day.

For some, that's a $5000 Serotta, for others, that's $500 Fuji.

My first road bike since I was a kid was a $20 Bianchi with Campy- came from a yard sale. Got me hooked and now I have a stable of 16 rides. Of course, my collection includes several old school BMX I'm rebuilding to regain my childhood, a couple of bikes for my 6-month-old son, a trainer bike, 2 70's era musclebikes and my 2004 Lemond Zurich.

So true.......Biggest thing I notice is that after you start riding you are going to want a different size frame down the road. I have a 59cm frame that I started off using a 100mm stem with (cuz I was used to mtn bike).......Now I'm using a 150mm stem with the seat all the way back on a thomson straight clamp. If I went back to that 100mm stem it would feel rediculous and cramped.

Don't spend a lot of money on your first bike......that dream bike you bought today won't fit right anymore once your flexibility has increased.

I'm confused. Are you saying I should get a Fuji, Giant, Lemond, or a Trek? If I wear a team kit, hairnet helmet, and shove a red hot poker in my a$$, will I still be cool? If I shave my legs as well, will I inevitably turn into a rump ranger? If my bike is equipped with 105 components, will the Ultegra people laugh at me, or just the Campy people? If I can maintain an average speed of 21 miles per hour, can I really go back in time? Can I go further back in time if I wear a Camelback? There's just so much to learn.....

yeah........I think his point is valid though. Bike maunfacturers pretty much are the same.

But you know how some of the people here get sick of reading the same old type of thing.....kind of like if somebody asks question of Campy vs Shimano/ Double vs Triple ------> causes people to go into fits.

Campy is much better than Shimano.

Double is the only way to go. Triple is for the lazy.

I am shopping for some 10speed Shimano stuff. I wish I could go Campy because it is much cheaper. Unfortunately, all of my wheels, 4 pairs, use Shimano freehub body.

Are you kiding?

I am the MasterBaiter!

Funny thing is, I'll point blank say that I was trolling and I guarantee someone will get mad at me for calling triple riders lazy, eventho I ride a triple with a 27 cog.

Posters here are easier than my first "girlfriend"... who slept with all my friends.

Makes more sense to ask the experts, there is never a shortage of people prepared to give an opinion. If you see it a "new bike - what should I buy" thread then you have the option of ignoring it. Normally the person asking this question knows nothing about bikes, but they are passionate enough to want to get a range of opinions. How would you feel if your new excitement was shot dead in the water by a "know-it-all" who didn't think you had the right to get some valued feedback. Just ignore these threads before the stress levels peak man, and get out there and have a ride or something.

How would anyone know to be passionate about cycling if they haven't bought a FIRST bike yet? You can be interested, intrigued, curious... then do a search function. It'll yield a plethora of posts. And I like to feel the stress. Makes me feel alive.

Here we go again

Double... (campy or shimano I do not know)...
my next bike will be record though...

HAHA (you are learning well LOL!!! , speaking to a leg shaving cyclist)
