Which rides are you looking forward to this year?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

As for my list, I'm a benefit ride junkie. I'm doing quite a few this year, but the ones I definitely can't miss are the following:

French Creek Iron Tour
Civil War Century
Ride Ataxia Philly
honestly never done either. i've heard good things about both.

i might also go out to my buddies place in PA and do a route i found called the "dirty dozen", its like 43 miles and 6k' of climbing. who knows if i'll be able to complete it. only one way to find out.

Do you have any lined up at this point? -- Nope. But I'm sure we will have soon, once we get more settled.

Is anyone in here planning to do any traveling with their bike? -- We've been travelling with our bicycles for the past 7.5 months ... around the world. We just arrived back where we started today. However, I'm sure we will do some more travelling with our bicycles ... hub-and-spoke tours and that sort of thing, at least.
When does the outdoor riding season start for you (if it ends)? -- January 1. We were in British Columbia then, and Rowan and I did a ride with my father. Chilly but very nice. Two weeks later we were in the heat of Western Australia. Now we're in Victoria, just north of Melbourne.

Well, we've kind of settled a bit, perhaps ...

But since the beginning of February, we travelled to a nearby lake for a weekend of camping, and we cycled there. Then, on another weekend, we travelled to one of the larger cities/towns in the area and cycled there. Then on the March Labour Day long weekend, we travelled to the Bright area in the Australian Alps and camped for the weekend ... and on the holiday Monday we cycled the rail trail there. It's a really nice trail - the best we've encountered in Victoria.

And we've got some interesting-looking organised rides on the horizon. We're not sure which ones we'll do, but there is one in May that looks good.

A couple rides with old friends. The weekly FDR training ride. Some races yet to be determined as I am waiting on things to calm down due to a new child.
Possibly focus more on cross this year due to the before mentioned reason. I'm winging it this year and training for god knows what.

Palm Springs

Tierra Bella
Primavera (single)
Chico Velo Wildflower
I Care Classic
Sequoia (single)
Giro Bello
Windmill (maybe)
Marin
Tour de Fuzz
Lighthouse
Foxy's

Some of these to have to register for the day things open up - Lighthouse fills very fast, for example.
I'm definitely looking forward to the Wildflower...I lived in Chico for almost 6 years and have done the Wildflower twice before. For me the ride is all about nostalgia.

Seriously considering Everest Challenge this year. I'm not getting any younger, and the course won't get any easier.

Someone needs to talk me into it. Probably several people.

A reason to visit our friends in Coeur d'Alene (not that we need a reason), it's 3 weeks after the Whistler GF so the body should be ready and willing.
If anyone is looking for an awesome ride (weather pending) - check out the Whistler Grandfondo! And for guaranteed great weather there's the Axel Merckx Granfondo in Penticton, BC in July.

Do it!

We're talking about doing the 7 Peaks Alpine Ascent Challenge again this coming summer (starting in October, I believe) we did it two summers ago, and enjoyed it. And that from someone (me) who is NOT a climber. It was definitely a challenge for me.

Leaving in September to ride around the US.

20 000 km. 10 months. Stopping here and there to play 10 of the top 100 golf courses.
