I paid $250 I think for my fit. Took 1.5-2 hours I think. It was over a year ago, and I still go back and look at the side-by-side comparison and can't believe how I used to ride.

OP here - many thanks for the valuable input. I've learned a lot about fittings, and had no idea they were so involved. I thought my LBS's price structure was way off, but they're apparently pretty consistent with everyone else in the business.
I've seen a few comments like that - and won't be surprised if that happens to me as well.
The first hint I had that my fit was off was when I was doing one-legged drills on a CompuTrainer course - I couldn't understand why I wasn't able to pull my leg all the way up, but it soon became obvious that my saddle was way too low. I mentioned this to the guy in the trainer next to me, who is a highly accomplished racer. His response - he could see at a glance that my fit was way off, but thought I was riding that way for some special reason, and strongly advised me to get a professional fit. Funny - I've often been able to see that my riding buddies are obviously badly fitted, but wasn't able to see that in myself.
Very interesting information about exactly what they test for - thanks!

I am by no means an expert fitter but I can generally help people get in the ball park at least.

Why don't you just try the Competitive cyclist fit calculator first, for a baseline.
