Iphone holder for road bike
 

Has anyone had any good experience with using an IPhone on thier road bike and what holder would you recommend? I saw some nice apps that can track your location from home, it also plays music, phone, etc. I've heard it is hard to read, especially in the sun light and of course you have to worry about rain, crashes etc. Do they make a "gorilla case that is waterproof that would give me a little confidence taking a chance like this? Opinions?

I have owned the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 version, both performed superbly. I never worry about my precious iPhone. Take a look. Highly recommended.

I was at the LBS on Monday and saw an iPhone case that is waterproof up to a depth of 20'. When mounted, the phone is extremely secure and it mounts to the handlebars or seat posts with attachments for mounting in other locations. It also has a transparent back so that you can take pictures or video without having to take the phone out of the case. I don't remember the name of the company that makes it, but it cost $60.00. Since I am also searching for a good iPhone holder, I was seriously thinking of getting it but two things stopped me: 1) if you have a protective case on your phone, it has to be removed in order to fit into their case, 2) it didn't appear that any of their mountings would work with aerobars and I didn't want to mount it on my seat post. I'm going back to that shop today or tomorrow and I'll get the name of the manufacturer and post it here for you.

We've been installing this Topeak RideCase on rental bikes when requested. It mounts on the steering tube cap.

The case has a quick release mount, and the phone can be rotated for portrait or landscape viewing. It is not weather proof, though.

I fear any mount on the bars would take so much shock it would not be good for the device. Get a cheap-o wired cycling computer and mount that, keeping the iPhone in your pocket for the vitals after the ride.

At Canadian Tire they have a little fabric bag that mounts to the handlebars...that provides vibration reduction, it has built in speaker and a speaker cord if you wanted to listen to tunes quietly as you ride and I'm sure a GPS signal could get though...my plans for this summer anyways.

I have been using one of these for my iPhone 4 for a year or so. Works good. My only complaint is a slight rattle where the case mounts to the adaptor (a bayonet style mount). I shimmed the bayonet with some tape and it helps. They make mounts for most of the smartphones including the iPhone 5.

I was looking at one of those that someone had on his bike. They are nice and not as expensive as some of the others I have seen, including the one I posted about. But again, it requires that the phone cannot be in a shock case and the case I have is a PIA to get the phone out of it every time I ride, which is daily.

On the Nyack Ride a few weeks back a guy had an iPhone mounted to his seatpost so he could shoot video of the ride. We rode over some rough pavement @ 30 mph and his phone ejected into the weeds.

I bought a soft case that velcros to the stem. It works really well. Water proof, decent shock protection, clear plastic screen you can use the touch screen without unzipping it. It's made by Handy Andy. Only cost like $20 I bought it through my LBS but you can find them on line at Bike Tires Direct or Western Bike Works. I think Western has an online sale today on accessories 15% off. I was using my iPhone app Map My Ride with this case. Got a Garmin 500 now so I don't use the case but my wife uses hers yet.

I use the Topeak on my Secteur & it did come with a rubberized cover & a carbon fiber looking back to make it weather resistant.
I've used this for around 2000 miles & it is secure with no rattles.

Not to hijack but I would like to bring my phone with me on some remote rides. But all the saddle bags I see that are big enough to carry tire repair stuff and a cell phone are to big. Has anyone seen a bag/holder that would hold a iPhone? I would love to find something that would mount on my extra cage spot.

Thats what I'll do if I can't find something just not a fan of it in a pocket. I know I saw something once that you could mount on one of the tubes but I have not been able to find it again .

I put my iPhone in a sandwich bag (so my sweat doesn't get to it) and put it into my jersey pocket. I set the Cyclemeter app to announce to me my stats every half mile. Since I ride alone no one gets bothered by the announced stats. I don't think the iPhone is designed to take all that rattling. Then again it could just be a paranoid urge on my part not to trust those holders.
