New garmins?! Already?!

I just bought my 500 and they're already coming out with the 510 and 810. What do you guys think?

Uhhh... Those are old news. They were announced like over month ago I think.

Impreza_aL 02-07-13 04:42 PM

it looks cool.

If someone wants to give me the 810 that would be fine, otherwise I am happy with my edge500.

When did they start selling them?

HaroldC 02-07-13 06:31 PM

Um...... they released the 500 in 2009.

And it's 2013.

You're a little to the party. :p

carl_h 02-07-13 06:42 PM

Keep your 500 and don't worry about it.

Andy Somnifac 02-08-13 06:37 AM

Like those damn cars. A new model every year? Seriously?

You accidentally a word.

i may get an 810...or atleast an 800. i like the idea of going out on a long ride where i don't have to know the area inside out.

You can get a used 705 for far cheaper if that's the functionality you need.

My problem with both devices is they are huge in size - like a phone. They look like a laptop sitting on the bars.

500 is lighter and more aero!

Seattle Forrest 02-08-13 11:11 AM

Garmin likes money. Who doesn't?

...And they're willing to spend a bunch of it to sponsor pro teams. That's not so easy to come by these days.

mwandaw 02-08-13 11:19 AM

It seems to me that the main functional difference between the 500/800 and the 510/810 is the ability to easily update your social media with information on your rides.

Doh!

That screen looks a lot nicer than the 500 though, so there's that. For some reason I missed that when they announced the new garmins.

You can also do live position updating if you have a smart phone, which my wife would appreciate. I guess when my 500 dies I'll think about it. :D

I've read the new screen isn't as good in sunlight. I'm still getting the new 510. I bought a 500 around Christmas and returned it when they announced the 510.

FasterNearGirls 02-08-13 11:49 AM

Well, yeah. Nicer screen, touchscreen compatible with any full finger gloves. Up to 10 bike profiles, with different data fields for Training and Racing modes, which is a nice feature. Tracking capability for a friend to meet you out on the road. That's all nice, but not worth the extra bulk, and money, in my opinion. If I were a 800 user, not worried about size and weight, maybe I'd be more interested in benefiting from these new features. But I'm happy with the lighweight minimalist 500 for now. Hope they come out with even more models in 1 year, with all those features and small. Then I'll upgrade.
