contacts falling out: Prescription sunglasses or wraparounds?
So, I seem to be losing contacts at long paces above 20mph. I wear Rudy Project Noyz sunglasses and wonder if I can get away with glasses that just cover more of my face. The Noyz frames are capable of RX lens inserts but I don't want to go down that route if i dont need to. I just hate to start the racing season and than lose my contacts with some crosswind. Anyone out there with similar situations or solutions?

Do you also use prescription eyeglasses? If so, my everyday wear prescription eyeglasses have "Transitions" lenses, that change shade to the light environment. I'm nearsighted and not rich so my everyday glasses that darken are my "sunglasses" for riding. They make em in differing powers of darkening, might be worth checking if your optometrist carries it. Although, you also have to take into consideration the actual size of your lenses, whether that would give you enough coverage in the first place if darkened.

I agree that the double lens insert systems are awful. Double lenses + double frames = very heavy and bulky, plus hard to clean.
Check with your local opticians to see if they can make you wraparound prescription sunglasses for a reasonable price. Wraparound frames are really valuable if you like riding fast or in windy dusty conditions. Also check the mail order places like this one:: https://www.bicyclerx.com/

I used to ride with contacts, and no specs and never once lost a contact. Do yours fit correctly? It might be worth asking your eye doc.
Are they popping out because of eye dryness?

Wondering the same thing. I ride with contact lenses and never feel like they're going to come out, even on descents in the mid 40's. I wear Jawbones FWIW and they provide excellent coverage.

I complained about my contacts moving during high speeds to my optometrist and he said that there are different curvatures to the lenses. I tried a different brand with a different curvature and now they're much better (although not perfect). I do think that choice of eyewear definitely makes a difference too, not necessarily so much in the coverage, but in the airflow. I use acuvue oasys lenses, and mostly Oakley jawbones.

Hmm, I have thought about changing eyedoctors and lenses. I used to use acuvue and loved them. I may just need to travel a bit further to see him. All that being said, it would be nice if just more coverage fixed it. I presume, that more coverage even with a poor fit contact would work but if indeed I have a poor fit than I should fix it. Rambling at this point I guess...
Thanks

Assuming that you are using soft lenses, you may be squinting which can some times eject your lens as the corner of your eye is tightening up and pushing the lens up and off the pupal.

I have a pair of Rec Specs with transition lens. They are not cool cycling glasses but I use them for running, kayaking, basketball, lifting, tennis, racketball etc. The transitions lens are the key. Embrace your inner Kurt Rambis.

I use the Rudy with inserts and find them fantastic. Pretty reasonable too with the discount codes. Prescription Oakleys were 500 plus, while these were under 200. Plus, I have one insert and multiple frames and lenses.

I wear contacts and have never had what you experienced. Even when descending at high speeds, they've never dislodged. I do have Oakley Jawbones, but I usually only wear them when it's bright, which it hasn't been in the winter when I head out at 6 am.

I'll add to the chorus that I've never lost a contact while riding. I'll also add that I'm jealous of all you folks who are capable of getting prescription Oakleys.

Hmm, well obviously I am motivated by afforadable options. It shouldn't cost much for me to go replace contacts or get a checkup on my eyes. I am still debating on whether or not I want to try and source some Rudy RX lenses as well.
I haven't had this issue either with 40+mph decents but I think it was the combination of technical turns, high pace and windy crosswinds that caused my contact to dislodge. First one dislodged and then a few minutes later, the other as well.

I have some Nike frames that do a pseudo wrap. my perscription is complex and the amount of curvature they can tolerate is limited, so says my doc. I'll be looking for new frames soon, as these are old and tired. I hate spending money on this stuff.
