I'm 5'5-1/2" (5'6" during high tide) and I ride a 48cm frame.

Star Trek beauty and Cat1 racer all rolled into one.

Uh oh, now I can't get the image of Lt. Uhuru riding a spin bike on the bridge of the USS Enterprise out of my head. Capt. Kirk is leering and Spock is pretending not to notice.

It's like a bad song you can't get out of your head.

Congrats on the new ride snowy.

Khuon, hey nice to see your post here, I havent' been posting for a while and am now getting back at it, but I remember your ID from a while back, have always enjoyed your posts, you're very good!.....But that size bike that you ride post that you did here, just AMAZED me, you're that tall and you can comfortable ride a 48cm?? That's amazing!!, are you comfortable on that small of a bike, and is that your normal size road bike??..

Take care,
Benjamin

I must have weird body proportions. ;) At anyrate, there's another trick being played here. The bike is an Aegis Aro Svelte and has a curved seat-tube that exits at a very shallow angle (66.5 deg). This supposedly allows someone to ride a smaller frame than they would normally because it proportionally gives the appropriate effective top-tube length. Also, while the frame size claims to be a 48cm, my measurement puts it at 49cm. Aegis says that as a rule of thumb to size their Aro Sveltes as if you were riding at least one framesize larger.

That was a good one Khuon on the weird body prop. :) that was funny!!:)....But seriously, I didn't know that Aegis had those curved seat tube. Back when I was trying different bikes for my first serious racing bike, the shop I deal with had me try an Aegis, I don't remember if it was the svelt or not, but I don't remember the seat tube. But that's pretty interesting, still seems small to me for your 5'6 but I could see how that works also...Do you have a lot of seatpost coming out also??....I'm 6 foot and ride mostely cannondales and 1 specialized and they are 58's, that 10 centimeters bigger and you're only 4 inches shorter than I am, so that's why I would think you'd ride a bigger bike...

Thanks for the explanation here though.

I'm not at home currently so I'd have to wait to actually measure it but I believe I only have about 4"-5" of seatpost exposed. Another nice thing about this design as opposed to one with a sloping top-tube is that it doesn't require you to have a lot of seatpost showing.

Very nice first bike. I hope you enjoy many many miles on it and many rides before upgrading it. And you WILL upgrade it. ;-)

Shifty 02-11-05 05:47 PM

You must have been out on it by now Snowy, is it great? Something that hasn't been covered here yet that you might think about, lightning. If it clouds up, drop a big chain down as a ground, one from each of those fancy Nike's too.

Chuvak 02-11-05 06:26 PM

Nice Dolce, never seen that color on a bike before(frame), pretty unique. Enjoy

mrballistic 02-12-05 02:14 AM

hrm... when i get my pista, i may have to look into this so called silver bar tape. then i'd have a perfectly monochromatic bike.

caadman 02-12-05 10:38 AM

Hey thanks there Khuon, sounds like those are very intersting bikes..
