Keeping your Privates warm during winter

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This is actual solution for the question posed by the OP. I'll wear it under my bib shorts when the temp is to stay below, say, 35 F.

PZ Ws Gunde Short

Developed to keep you at the optimal temperature throughout any workout in fair , cold and windy conditions. Be Active Extreme Windstopper® is made of a thin, lightweight and elastic micro polyester fabric and Gore Windstopper® panels. Air-channeled polyester expels excess heat away from the body while filament yarns transport the moisture. The Windstopper® panels are placed in exposed areas, providing wind protection and freedom of movement simultaneously.

Riding shorts with chamois liner, then tights over the top and I'm good down into the low 30's

I think a lot of it has to do with riding intensity as well as with duration of the rides.
I can imagine getting cold when riding semi-slow for 4 hours whereas riding hard for an hour won't be as much of a problem.

I have mastered the art of riding with no hands. I will gently blow on my hands and carefully cup myself with the warmed hands and ride as normal. It is not very aero but is indeed very warm. It does have limits when Mt biking and climbing.

Another option is to move to Austin. 63F on my commute today.

Back when I would ride down to 5F in Denver and Boulder, I would drop a baggie or part of a newspaper page between my bibs and tights.

I think if you ride hard for 4 hours you're supposed to call your doctor.

+1 I wear just my bibshorts and leg warmers (not full tights) down to about 20 degrees. I have during those times actually put some embro (Mad Alchemy Medium) on my cheeks and outer thighs, if it's a cold damp, like freezing fog.

Are you riding upright? I've always thought that that area of contact point always be a little more protected from the environments given a normal riding position.

Also, If you have a warm core (Chest and Head), you can get away with less on the other parts. My understanding of the body is that its primary focus is preserving "vital organs", when facing cold exposure and it will make sure blood flow is active to those areas as a means of survival. If you have a good insulation on those areas, your body will sense this and then move that blood to your limbs and appendages, as it doesn't go into "Survival Mode". For those areas (core), I use a Windstopper baselayer under a thermal longsleeve jersey, and then another windstopper vest on top of that...layering with lighter breathable layers. Works for me.

I got some Nalini Thermal bibs.

My boys are happier in Winter 2013 than Winter 2012.
