Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

I'd love to see some pictures from your rides. What I really want to see is gorgeous mountain scenery with winding roads and well-loved bikes that get plenty of use ... but I'll take what I can get.

How 'bout Colorado red rock canyon country?

The Canyon of the Dolores River, near Gateway in far western Colorado.

And here is the ascent to Molas Pass with Silverton in the distance.

Sorry for the lack of bike-in-shot photos.

Colorado National Monument

Near the top of Vail Pass

Seems I have a serious lack of photos.

It's not fair, why should you all have such a superfluity of beauty out there. Just one or two of the vistas around here would be nice.

Have a look at the Photos Threads ... specifically the mountains ones ...
https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...-Photo-Threads

Also, if it is Colorado Monument photos you're after ... have I got photos for you!!
https://www.flickr.com/photos/machka-...7630063425035/

In the set above, when the red rock photos start ... that's where the Colorado Monument photos start ... and they go on and on from there. Then they kind of merge into the photos we took on our drive to Moab, so just over the border into Utah. That's as far as I've gotten ... but there are lots more to come.

Foresthill, that first picture by the railing is where I got married.

No I didn't ride up there in my wedding dress... but I thought about it.

They are all beautiful! I'll be in Colorado for 2 weeks this summer. We are camping and I don't want to risk losing my bike though, so I won't have anything to ride. Still considering renting a bike for a day or two and exploring.

These are gorgeous! Keep them coming!

Anyone done the Peak-to-Peak? What about the Million Dollar Highway out by Ouray?

I didn't have my bike with me any of the times I was in Colorado, but since this is my thread I think I can get away with cheating, and posting some non-bike pictures.

This was somewhere west of South Park on US 285.

This was on a rough dirt road heading up out of Ouray toward Yankee Boy Basin. Would be great on a CX bike. I camped here for half a week in late September.

You Colorado people have it good.

Yeah, I've ridden both of those - the P2P is 28 miles from my house up Lefthand Canyon.

You are a fantastic photographer, I hope you and your bike get to come out to CO and spend more time & take more photos.

THis is from P2P between Ward and Raymond, I don't really like posting my crappy pictures next to yours!

That first one I posted with my black bike by the fence is from P2P as well, looking out towards Longs Peak, just south of Estes Park.

Thanks! I do, too. Haven't been out there in years; the last time was in the winter, and I wound up doing a lot of hikes in the snow. On the way to most of them, I kept thinking what a great place it would be to ride a bike.

I was born in Denver, and I love mountains, so Colorado has a special place in my heart.

My second photo in post #18 is along US-24 a just a little south of Leadville. It was taken at a Ride the Rockies rest stop in 2011 enroute from BV to Edwards.

This is one of my regular rides. It's covered in snow at the moment (a quick glance over my shoulder, looking out the window).
In a month or so I'll be riding it.

But...no mountains around here. Not even the Grand Mesa. It's not really a mountain. I got my geology degree here. I could bore you with the details.
