Very inspiring. I know more factual information about components than my buddies who have been riding for years. I have experienced next to none of these components, wheels, parts, etc. I'd really enjoy giving a test like this a go. In the summer, I'll be starting the journey of finding "my" saddle. Not sure I could handle doing two demos at once, but I'm definitely interested in it.

I've been looking at going with Boyd's for my wheel upgrade, but this tempts me to go custom. Honestly, I have no clue what I want. I enjoy climbing, but we don't have any major climbs around here.

Looking forward to more reports as well! Perhaps she engaged in this demo to bring her company out...? I most likely would've never heard of this company otherwise. If I was in the area, I'd definitely try to demo at least something.

EDIT: I noticed coachboyd posting in this thread. I'm not ruling out Boyd. I'd just enjoy experiencing as much as I can before I spend my money on a wheel set. Funds are limited in college...

so you think these feel heavier, I haven't looked them up either, but with 24/28 spokes, more rotational mass/weight, they should feel a bit stiffer that your Boyds. There comes the quandary or trade off of the weight savings vs. performance.

I have shaved a lot of weight off my bike, but for the most part I have done it without compromising parts that would effect performance. I noticed yesterday that my planet x brakes felt a bit weak on these wheels while descending. I still have my ultegra's, so that may be something I throw back on if I still feel that the braking is lacking.

I live here and I didn't know it was going on! argh!

All the same thoughts, except I have come to the conclusion that even though I like the performance of these wheels, I would really like to have a lighter wheel for climbing. I do a good amount of it and This seems to be a big part of these wheels that hold me back from really loving them. I do really like how this wheel performs on all other aspects though. Since I dont know the weight, I will go on a limb and here with my number but I would imagine this would be my perfect wheel set up if it was 200-300g lighter.

They started out as "Epic Wheel Works" before changing the name to "Sugar Wheel Works".

Are your Boyds your baseline for this statement?

Which Boyds do you have & how much do they weigh?

I dont know really what my baseline would be since I dont know exactly what these wheels weigh. My guess from riding them would be that they are around 1800-1850g. My boyds are 1490g. I have the boyd vitesse alum clinchers. They are 2 generations old though.

1850g would be pretty darn heavy... My cheapo DT Swiss stockers weigh less than that I think.

I only asked because I was just wondering what you were basing your impression that these wheels are heavy on... whether it was just based on your feeling from riding your Boyds, or something else.

FWIW, my Fulcrum Racing 3's are almost exactly the same weight as your Boyds and are extremely stiff laterally. I haven't been able to detect any flex under hard efforts. They certainly are a s***-ton better than my Eastons.

I'm basing this guess with comparing them to my boyds. Maybe 1850 is a bit much. lets say 1750g

What happens if they're actually within spitting distance of the Boyds? I haven't looked up specifics, but I have to think that you spotting the Boyds almost a pound vs these wheels is, uh, optimistic at best.

like I said. I dont know any numbers. it was a complete shot in the dark, but they do feel considerably heavier. I'm not quoting any claimed weights.

I understand that, but the question remains - if they ARE close to the Boyds in weight, do you still not love them because the 'feel' heavy or are you happy with them?

Oh ok. I see what you are saying. I don't know at this point. If I had to answer now, I would say no, I would not spend my money on them. I would continue my search with Jude to find something g that was similar but was lighter or felt lighter. The way the wheel weight is so much of a thought in my mind I fear I would be unsatisfied. Still very impressed with this wheel and will continue to test ride as much as I can over the next week while I have them.

bianchi10: I run HED Belgium C2 rims that are 23mm wide, too. With my 700x23 Vittoria Open EVO Corsa CX tires, I run the pressure at 95f/105r. With my 700x25c GP4000s tires, I run them at 90f/100r. You're about 10 lbs heavier than me, but I feel like with any less pressure (especially the Contis), the wheels feel sluggish.
