Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How do you transport your bike?

Ya can't start every ride from your driveway. So when you have to transport your bike to your ride spot how do you do it?
Having a pickup I had multiple options on hauling my bike with prices ranging from several hundred dollars to free, I ended up going with the Keep It Simple Stupid theory & got a $20 Summit truck bed mount.
It takes all of 30 seconds to get my bike in or out, it's not sitting behind my truck where a minor fender bender wipes out my bike & it's secure enough that no one can just lift it out of my truck & I noticed they have a locking version too.

Since I ride 2-3 times a week & have to drive to all my starting spots the simple bed mount on a 2X6 Is easy to use & remove, nice & simple.
I am guessing those of you with a Prius or other car which doesn't have the cargo capacity of my Ram 2500 have some very interesting transport methods!

Not very interesting for most people: Inside or Bike rack: Roof, trailer hitch, trunk mount.

I have a Volkswagen. I don't think I am allowed to transport any way other than roof rack.

I always have my bike with me.

When my friends and myself head out of town for races the bikes go on top.

Every REAL cyclist RIDES to their group rides. everyone knows that! lol

But when I'm not feeling like being a real cyclist, I use a roof rack on my Honda Odyssey.

I have a 1up rack and I love it. It folds up, almost flat against my bumper when not in use.

A road bike lays down real nice in the back of my 04 Corvette coupe. I need to take pics of how nice it fits.

Thule rack- two standing trays with downtubes clamps for the steel and reasonably sized aluminum frames, two fork mount trays for the oversized and carbon bikes. Four bikes total.

I might have the only thule rack in the history of dodge neons. (the thing won't die, I wish it would, but it just keeps chugging along at 188k).

crap pic, but here's my (now) bad weather bike 2011 CAAD8 and my friend's wife's Specialized Ruby

Yakima qtowers, 48" cross bars, and Inno trays.

I used to drive a POS car and told myself once i got a new nice car, i'd have a new nice rack. i ordered this within a few days of selling my old car and having the new ride tinted.

Currently, I take off the front wheel and wedge it into my back seat. I then sit the front wheel beside it. I drive a 1999 2-door Honda Civic.

I would love to own a roof rack, but I think realistically, I'll be purchasing a trunk rack. I hate to say it, and I believe the roof rack would be way more functional in years to come, but I just can't afford it. I'm also afraid of losing the rack if I were to switch cars (which isn't to likely for a while, but a possibility none-the-less).

I felt lame driving away from the group ride a few weeks ago, since I was the only one who drove. It would've been an extra 40 miles on dangerous roads if I had ridden. Blind turns and fast cars.

with a suspended license then an inexplicable seizure condition keeping me from driving, I HAVE started every ride from my driveway for the last few years. Unless a friend is rescuing my ass.

when i could actually drive my GTI had a clean look (and the coilovers weren't very forgiving), i'd just fold down the rear seats and throw the frame and two wheels in. i'm still on the same bike, just a different car...that also has fold-down seats and a large hatch.

If it's just a bike or two, I'll fold down the back seats and lay the bike(s) flat in the back of the vehicle, otherwise rear, trailer hitch mounted bike rack.

Usually ride from home, but if I need to drive and just taking one bike I remove both wheels and drop it in the trunk - it's faster than folding down the rear car seat. For carrying more bikes I add a $20 rear bumper mount rack for two bikes and an old Graber roof mount for two more. Lets me carry up to 5 bikes and 4 additional people in a Corolla.

When I drive the pickup to cycling events, I have a PVC, 3 bike rack that I use to haul the bikes. Cost me around $25.00 to build. However, we bought a Ford Transit Connect to haul our bikes when we travel and for everyday hauling and storage.

I have a Miata and a Ram 1500 Tradesman. I will give you one guess as to which I use to transport anything.
