I've been doing mid week rides for years. Sometimes on the trails but in the last few months, my after work rides have been exclusively on the asphalt using the road bike. Visibility and safety issues are my main requirements for lighting. Since I originally purchased my lights for off road, I've purchased Nightsun lights and have found them adequate for road use. I've since exhausted my third NiCad battery pack and it looks like its time to replace my light.
I purchased a Light In Motion ARC Li-ion this week and I took it on my midweek ride for the first time. I did a 35 mile road ride through the hills and neighborhoods surrounding Pasadena.
My observations on this first ride -- This light ROCKS!
1. It took less than two hours to charge. Im accustomed to 16hours with my old NiCad Halogen.
2. It weighs only 1.2lbs with the light and fits in my pocket. My old Nightsun weighs over 5lbs and fits in waterbottle cage.
3. It lasted for 3 hours and was still going strong when I shut it down. My NiCad only lasted 2.5hours at 10W and 45 minutes at 35W.
4. The light patthen is amazingly focused but illuminated very well around the sides. I can see low hanging objects as well as the shoulder and off the sides.
With this light, I'm looking forward to some 24 hour races this year. I recommend this to anyone who rides at night. It's absolutely the best I've ever used.

i realy like my cat eye LED light. not real bright (only 3 AAA's) but just enough to get you down the road, actualy only enough to keep you just a little spooked and pedaling fast. hehe
