Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cold in the winter, but warmer than you might think in the summer. 32C outside at the moment, down to 15 overnight. It's heat without humidity, though, so I love it.

Now there's one very sad era in television advertising...

Did you really have to bring him into this thread?

Yeah I second that, no matter how many Geoffrey Rushs, Toni Collettes
or Naomi Watts' we churn out, it will never be enough to recover from
Jacko and Hogan ...

Its the same with the music, no matter how many powderfingers, spiderbaits
or groove terminators, you will always cop the "I come from a land downunder"
jokes .... oh well, at least none of our cultural low points sink as far as WWF wrestling

One of my favourite cultural low points for Oz was the opening ceremony for a World Cup Rugby final in 1999 - Australia vs. France in Wales.

For the pre-match entertainment, the Welsh had Bryn Terfel, Charlotte Church and Shirley Bassey - all extraordinary singers who put on a friggin' awesome show with rock band Stereophonics. Can't remember who peformed for France...

The Aussies sent John Williamson and Rolf Harris (with wobbleboard).

A carton or two or crownies later it didn't really matter. Australia won 35-12 .

Praise the Lord, Hallelujah, and pass me a beer

I have one sacred crownie and four VB left in the fridge from my last visitor here a few months ago. Methinks they'll be gone by the end of the tour. Thankfully I have a trip back to Oz somewhere around September to restock...

I LOVE 'Fightin' 'Round the World'! Classic South Park! On a related note, I went and saw a John Kricfalusi Retrospective last week ( The Ren and Stimpy guy ). You wouldn't believe how much they cut out of each episode to make it palatable for ordinary viewers. Oh man. John K sure does like his boobies and ribald humour.

Anyway, now we're seriously OT. Umm....okay.....someone said Mick Rogers was out of the tour, but he isn't - there was a short interview with him last night.

But of course. It just goes to prove one point. As bad as your imports have been At least they're getting better. Follow the progression. Steve Irwin's message of conservation is being heard even if being coated with a Kookaburra accent.

So was Chances.

But on the flip side, there's Water Rats. I always like Stingers too. Saw a couple of episodes of each of those when I was upin Canada earlier in the year. Was a nice change from all the US tv...

Not cheap, but a good range of Aussie food is available at www.simplyoz.com. They even have mint slices...

That reminds me of one of the best ways to start an argument with an aussie:
Marmite is vastly superior to Vegemite.

I have to agree with you Raiyn, Australia has exported some excellent crap to the U.S but nowhere near as much mindless fodder you guys have sent our way!
But lucky for both of us that a bad joke or show will never hurt anyone (not physically anyway).I wish I could say the same for U.S foreign policy.
People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

why are roadies considered big beer drinkers?
Is it coincidental that this thread is next to the Aussie one?
