Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Give us the syptoms, and Dr 531 will might be able to give you some tips: I've had a few "knees".

Apperently Ross Smith in Prahran is good (and expensive), and Terry Hammond recommends the guy at that big gym in Sandy.

Symptoms .. doesn't actually hurt to ride, just aches lying inbed at night. It's particularly tender along the medial joint line. I had a partial medial meniscus tear 18 months ago, skiing, followed about 6 months later by what the quack thought was "plica syndrome". I've got a horrible suspicion that I might have pushed just a little too hard on the commute on the way home on Thursday night .... but I've just got this fanatical desire to beat my best previous time!!

I've been icing every hour or so most of the day and I'll wheel the roadie out tomorrow for a "gentle" spin.

Actually dropped the commuter into Terry Hammond in Bay St. on Friday for a "service".

Hmmm... I haven't had that one. What I do is, once I'm confident the diagnosis is correct, I research my own rehab techniques, and use them along with whatever the physio has provided. Better than have 10 consecutive visits!!

As far as cycling specific physios, or those with stacks of cycling work, I really wouldn't like to recommend anyone. There's a masseur is Mt Waverly (Gary Miritis -- spelling??) who's supposed to be good, but he KILLS YOU!!

I've found (self) massaging the surrounding muscles effective, but it takes a bit to get used to the self inflicted pain.

If the other guys get on the forum tomorrow morning, when they're supposed to be working , they might be able to offer something -- I think Ed used to live over this way.

That sounds good.

I also suffer from "puppy dog who can't resist chasing the tennis ball" syndrome

He's teflon mate....you won't stick anything to him. You'll end up feeling like you owe them something as he zooms off in his M3.

I was there!!! I got to Le Nicks and had to buy a tube so stood in line until just before the lads shot off. I was even in the top 1/3 of the riders until the coppers (FARKEN PR*CKS) herded everyone into the back of a parked car. Wattsy looked up just in time to see everyone jumping on the brakes and then went spearing off onto the footpath. I bunny hopped the curb but then hit the concrete path with the back wheel. About 1k further I heard 'POP...pppfffftttt....pppfffftttt and noticed everyone was looking at me. I looked down to see my tyre was going flat and then looked up to see the back of the pelaton riding away...wattsy's hell Ride was over after exactly 6.55km's.

It was a lonely ride to Sorrento from there...

G'day,

I looked for you but couldn't see you.......I think this weeks coppers were newbies...they did a couple of strange things......they went beserk (lights, sirens, screaming over the PA) when we ran an amber down toward edithvale......a couple of times they actually tried to cause an accident, they would sit in the outside lane...going slightly faster than the bunch...as soon as anyone decided to draft them to the front...they'd slam on the brakes...bloody unsociable I reckon!. Geez it was quick...handlebar tape for brekky this week!, cos they've been slow for a few months....some peckerhead came off at Olivers...most got round him......but a few got caught up.....well that's 'hell rides' over for me for awhile......Warnie next week, ATB the following Sunday tthen I'm getting orf for awhile...looking forward to the rest!

cheers,

Hitchy

Sounds like I was fortunate to get a flat when I did. At least I had an excuse to stop...I got about 1k over Oliver's when the Hell Rider's passed me on the other side of the road...lot's of red faces amonng the pack, but man were they moving.

BTW, I road from Dromana to Blairgowrie with a bloke who was also doing a training run for Warnie. He started with the Hell Ride and said he got to the top of Oliver's first on the day but was swamped. I actually thought it was ed for a while cause he is a former Amatuer rider who spent some time in Europe riding for a club there. I worked out he wasn't ed after we discussed his ride in Warnie.

FYI Hitchy, this is his 6th and they added the extra 50k's for this ride. He reckons you'll be in unbearable pain for the first 250k's and then it'll just get worse!!
