Edge 810 vs Etrex 30
So my issues with my 500 got me looking more closely at the new 510 and 810 models and the gadget geek in me wants but the 810 in particular seems really expensive. Since it mainly adds mapping over the 500 series and that isn't something I would use much I don't really see the need. However, when you do want mapping/routing it would be handy.
I do have an Etrex 30 which supports a HRM and I think cadence which is all I use. Social features of the 810 aside, has anyone used an Etrex as a cycling computer? Granted, it's larger, harder to mount, heavier and has a smaller screen but it does map, route, record data and the new model is actually not much bigger than an 810 so is it serviceable as a cycling computer when you need to route somewhere or are there features of the 810 that really make it worth another $500 (given that I already have an Etrex)?

I have used the etrex30 and returned it. I found the user interface for cycling to be a bit clunky. It works perfectly fine though. No support for power meter however and the screen is not highly visible in bright sunlight.

Thanks for the feedback. I kept my 30 because it's a nice unit for hiking. Agree the cycling aspects are limited but may be good enough for occasional use. I found a few comments mainly on mtb forums saying good things about the 30 and I'm just not overly happy with the screen quality of the 800 series. My old Oregon was pretty bad too. Wish Garmin would try to follow the smartphone model a bit more and focus on resolution that is better than just good enough.
