A REALLY important issue

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A REALLY important issue

A REALLY important issue

I am having as hard time with a really serious and perplexing issue: Is it worth $85 to get a KMC bling chain? I have a black and red P2C and this looks pretty sweet:

I can only approve if you're going to use wax to keep it those colors.

Purchase of said chain will gain you a retroactive membership to the now all but defunct OCP registry.

No shame at all in sinking some dough into a nice chain.

Just got my new gold chain a few days ago. That's the only bling in my life. I suck.

That's true. The only jewelry I wear are watches and my wedding band. I do wear my road ID from time to time as well.

A fancy chain like that should be good for at least an extra 25 watts.

Are you going to ride the bike, or just post pictures of it online?

My guess is that unless the roads are super-clean where you ride that red will look black within 25 miles, depending on the lube you use.

That said, definitely get it! If you don't already have a Campy black and red group, get that too.

You have inspired me to get the same chain. My bike is red and black and that looks so sweet! And I would not seek approval from strangers on the internet to do it. (I would tell the wife it cost only $25 though!)

Agree that it will look all black after first ride or two.

If you wipe the chain down periodically you'll be able to see the red edges of the pins. I still say do it.

For you...yes. But don't ride it. That will get it dirty. Wear it around your neck.

Exactly. Not that hard to keep it clean if you wipe it down after every couple rides. This chain isn't new.
