flatbar, which bike to buy?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

flatbar, which bike to buy?

Hi

I am new to cycling. I live in Australia and wanted to get a flatbar road bike under 700$. Can someone suggest a good bike under this price tag?

I intend to go for this one:

https://www.bicyclesonline.com.au/201...d-carbon-fork/

any suggestions?

Thanks

Oxymoron. A bike best suited for road riding (i.e. a road bike) has drop handlebars. Even if you want an upright riding position (presumably the reason for wanting flat bars) that can easily be accomplished by the fitting a conventional road bike, and you'll have more options than the flat bar bike provides.

xabi, you will probably get better answers (and less abuse) by posting your question in the Hybrid forum.

I'll admit I am biased to Giant but if you really want a road bike with a flat bar check out a Giant Rapid 0. As others will tell you though, drop bars will give you more comfort for longer rides.

I went from a drop bar road bike (2006 Allez) to a hybrid/flat bar road bike (2009 Sirrus) and I am now back to a drop bar (2012 Podium 2).

If you want to do more than 15 miles at a time and be comfortable, get a drop bar road bike. If you want to have upright and bigger tires, try a Touring road bike (usually more upright with much better tire clearance, and sometimes canti brakes). After 3 years with the Sirrus, I found 15 miles was my max comfortably, where as the Allez I could ride 20 miles and be good for more, though rarely had the time. Flat bars are great for urban riding and mountain biking, but out on country roads their handling advantages are much outweighed by a drop-bar comfort.

Thats my opinion. Hybrid forum is a better place to ask, a bunch of real kind folks there

I don't know about a bike for you , but I always wanted to know:
How do you guys ride when everything is upside down? I mean, look at a globe, right?

Here in US, a lot of people ride trek 7.x series. Giants also get good rep as value buys

If he's riding upside down then flat bars are better for hanging on.

An argument is more than a simple series of contradictions.
