Riding While Sick

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Riding While Sick

Against better judgement, I went riding today while coming off a 48-hour bug with a fever. I tried the rollers during those days, but it was hard. Didn't help that I was taking antihystamines. But today was the first time I felt like I could put in a ride, so I went out. Bad idea. I am now coughing, wheezing, hacking, sniffling, sneezing, and blowing my nose more than ever. I guess, what I'm really trying to get at is, how do I add a profile picture? Do I need to hit a magical number of posts to open up that capability?

What does riding while sick have to do with a profile picture?

Click the Settings link at the top right of the page, then the Edit Profile Picture on the menu at the left.

I hope you feel better.

I had a cold in August and thought I could ride through it (HTFU) ended up with bronchitis. I have ridden through other colds and have been fine. If I feel like poop I stay home, especially if its a fever, sore throat or in the chest. If its just sinus's, Ill ride and if the next day its worse, stay home. Ill loose more weekly mileage if the cold worsens than if I just tapered off a little.

breathing cold air is no good when you sick, it may lead to ammonia if its foggy outside.

i think you can put a sig pic up after you can bench your weight +5lbs.
my cuzzin likes in york btw, how is it there now?

Ammonia? Good to clean floors or toilets, but bad inside your body.

Trust me on this one.

Practically all cleaning chemicals are not good for you. That pneumonia stuff is bad too.

Stay indoors and get healthy, Fondo. You're moving up the mileage chart and you don't want to jeopardize that

If you've got a fever you shouldn't be doing anything physically exhausting, you'd body is going through enough as it is so no reason to tax it. Otherwise ride if you can, just be careful to get any ammonia on your jersey, it'll pretty much ruin it.

Love the replies and comments. The sudden change of topic in my OP was intentional, as if to signify the effects of riding while sick

Managed to put in a 24 miler today with 1443' of climbing. To my surprise, I scored 5 trophies on Strava, including one PR and one Top10, without trying. I think I overdid it though. When I got home, I didn't recall putting my bike on the car and driving. It's like, I finished my ride and then BAM! I was in my driveway waiting for the garage door to open. It's a short trip, so that's only 15 minutes of my life I don't remember.

I always ride when sick, albeit slower and shorter distances.

I always take the day off when I'm sick or not feeling well. This whole week I was attacked by an allergy which turned into a sore throat, but got hay fever as soon as my sore throat was getting better. I have a history of asthma, though never had any asthma attacks. I'm always cautious about riding with congestion, I've read a lot of stories in which an individual tried riding through congestion and ended up taking more days off than what they had hoped for.
