Kinlin rims??
I have my wheelset all specced out and ready to buy the parts and have it build up, but I'm still worried about the rim choice I made. I am going with Kinlin XR-270 for front and XR-300 for the rear. I'm pretty light 130-135lb, likes to sprint and put hammer down on A group rides. I'm wondering if I should go with XR-270 for both (front & rear), but worried if it will be flexy... Or my choice is a good decision
Short Story: will XR-270s be stiff enough for my weight and all of sprints and acceleration I do? |
I have the Kinlin XR-270s on my track training wheels. I weight 170lbs and have not felt any flexing while doing jumps or sprints on the track. The front wheel is radial laced and the rear 2X. Go for it, no worries.

i you're 130 lbs you could probably ride paper mache rims and be ok

hahaa, what about kinlin XR-200 for front and 270 rear?.... or even both with XR-200 (front & rear) or I went too far with XR-200s?
|
XR-200s have a track record for cracking.
|
Im 6'2" @ 225 lbs riding 2 sets of wheels Psimet built for me using 270's in the front and 300's in the rear and have never had any problems from them.
At 130 lbs you should be fine on anything you ride on. |

I have the 300s and I'm 200lbs. No real problem with flex (sometimes when climbing they seem to rub the brakes from time to time) but I'm not a fan of them in the wind. Maybe the 270 on the front will be a bit better. Personally, if I had it to do over I probably would have gone for the Hed C2 (which I did for my second set), A23 or similar. However, the kinlins are nice rims and seem sturdy.

i've got about 4000 miles on two pairs of 28h 15ga-18ga spoked kinlin 200's. my weight 150. sides winds don't seem to influence them at all. silver, average looks (not polished very well), anodizing is so-so (if they are anodized). very thin and light aluminum construction. the v-section will dent easily. potholes have not damaged them. stiffness is good.
good and round. easy to build, if you're into that. |
270XRs are stiff, solid rims.

Awesome, I think I will go with XR-270s! cant wait to build up a sub- 1500g wheelset!
|
I have 300s with 24/28s and I love them to death. They're about 1355g ish and I wasn't even thinking of doing a light build --- everything was from BHS except the rear spokes/nipples.
|
Wow!, hows the BHS hubs? the bearing and everything? Im going with White Industries T11 hubset, wondering if its worth the weight penalty.. umm

How's that possible with 930g worth of rim? Even with the lightest hubs they offer, and alloy nipples, that leaves less than 150 grams for 52 spokes.
