Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Miles seem like a pretty useless metric to measure to me.

Hours would make more sense.

Yeah any ride with climbing increases difficulty instantly. Thats why I like to track elevation gain and not raw mileage.

I think a little less than 100. Hoping to ramp things up a little now that the weather is nice and I can ride outside comfortably. It's really hard for me to ride inside.

You weren't insulting IMO, but I can see where someone might find your quoted question to be pretty condescending.

It won't happen. I never post in that thread because my weight isn't an issue 6'2" 173lbs.

This should have us state miles (or Kms), hours, and average temp YTD lol I have been riding in an average of 5C (41F) weather which, naturally, will cut down my rides lol

Weight isn't an issue for most of the participants, it is just another metric to track.

On a related note, if you were had participated you would be in the lead. The point though is not to win, it is to motivate, and it is working.

My weight varies by about 5 pounds(170-175) so there's not much to track.

1977 miles YTD, with 41,280 feet climbed (yea I know that's low trying to work on it)

also 133 miles of swimming YTD

I just did el Tour de Mesa on Saturday, was a huge motivation to keep me going out, even when it was cool (yea it does get cool here in AZ).

Don't feel bad about your elevation total. I've only climbed 54,898 feet over 3660 miles. I love the AZ weather(not today), but when I lived in Boulder City Nevada, every ride started with a 6.2 mile 1250ft climb.

It really padded my numbers.

I've only been riding seriously for about 15 months. When I gave distance/elevation totals last year, I got quite a bit of grief.
Normally I just ride from home. I live in Chandler...if you know this area, I need to ride 15-20 miles before I start to see any kind of elevation. Heck, if I ride to Maricopa and back I can log 60 miles with probably 200 feet

Every now and then I will drive/ride, and need to do more of those. I drove to Power/McDowell a few weeks ago, did Usery twice, a loop through Las Sendas (with Hawes), and Bush Hwy (logged 2200 feet). But really have to plan those, -v- just going out the front door.

I live in Peoria AZ, and have to ride 35 miles to get to anything I actually call a climb.

Guess we're all riding up to FLG this weekend.
