Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sea Otter Classic

Just need some info.

We have our camping reservations already but are deciding if we should bring our beater MTB's or our nice road bikes. We are going as spectators for the culture and fun of it all and are not going to participate in any of the organized rides. We normally ride the road bikes but don't want them to get ripped off from the trailer while checking things out. If it's close enough we'd like to ride the bikes into town but don't necessarily want to ride old beater (1980's) MTB's if it's a long, hilly ride.

Do people normally ride around or are most people just walking from event to event and into town?

My MTB is so embarrassing - it's got that lovely 1980's splatter paint. Decent bike though - GT Tequesta - just ugly as heck.

Thanks in advance for any info.

doesn't most of the stuff happen at the track? if so, then it's all within walking distance. aren't going to want to try walking into town. ride MAYBE, but even that is a little far if you're going to spend any time looking around. probably better to just drive.
there are trails all over the place, and roads too.
