The Veulta brand from Performance or Nashbar I thought were decent wheels for the money too. I have the Krysium Elites and have had little to no issues with them, I paid around $500 for them as well. I did want a set of RS80s but went with Mavic's for the added strength (at the time I was 230sih).

Your Alex must have high spokes count. Riding with my 32 spokes Alex wheels was always a wrestling match in crosswind but with my low spokes count R550, it's always a smooth ride. I'm also a lightweight if that matters.

I'm not sure what the spoke count is but the problem isn't nearly as bad on my wife's bike, has different wheels. She has a Fuji ACR 2.0. Her wheels are something like Shimano R20s or something...

Not all people buy wheels simply based on looks or because they think the wheels will make them faster. I was having trouble keeping my wheels true so I went with BOYD Rouleurs in the 24/28 spoke count. I weigh 220 and the wheels are solid. No flex and they stay true through all kinds of riding. I paid $435 for the wheels including shipping to my door in two days. The wheels being only 1582g doesn't hurt either.

Ive riden his 50mm carbon clincher and ride vittese right now.
The deep, looked so damn fast! ;). I did notice how the wheels seemed to maintain speed. Sort of miss it.

The vittese are solid all around wheels that could be raced on. my closest comparison would be ksyrium elites. But as this have standard parts you could service them if needed.

Surely id like try the 2013 boyds, but have to agree its mostly for the bling factor :)

Well, as far as looks, who doesn't like a cool looking wheel, right? While cool looking wheels are well, cool, I'm not looking to play "Pimp My Bike," I'm looking for a decent wheel that's going to do me a bit better than what I have now. As far as finding two wheels that are on equal playing fields, I won't deny I'd take the more attractive one of the two. :)

if ya wanna save some money but lookin for durable you can consider the mavic aksiums. they can be had all day long for ~$200 per set (if you shop smart you can find new take offs on ebay for less), weight isn't exactly light at 1800g, but they are far from being tank like. I'm in the ballpark of your weight and in two full season I've not had to so much as tighten a single spoke. sure they aren't "tour quality" but they are effective and the price point is good. the kysriums are only about 100g less weight, so you spend quite a bit for that 100g. if you've got the coin though, the others are right, get some customs from Psimet or Boyd or November or a number of other reputable builders or even your LBS if they are good at that stuff. jmho

Replaced a cheap set of Alex wheels that wouldn't stay true with these ($175 I think) and haven't had an issue since. I'm about 195lbs too.

Alex wheels are pretty terrible about staying true. You could buy any name brand wheelset and do better.

This. Even a set of cheap Mavic CXP22's would be a huge improvement over a set of Alex's.

The more I look at the Neuvation R28sl's for $250 and 1510g they are tough to beat.

Got a quote back from Psimet and they quoted me $590, which is pretty reasonable. I also looked at the Boyds and they seemed pretty decent. :thumb:
