Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lightweight travel floor pump

I want a floor pump that I can carry in or strapped to my race bag.

My old Zefal Husky is far too heavy and inconvenient except its fold-up feet are a boon.

Couple I spotted:
  • Zefal Air3 is 880g
  • Park PHP-5 is 1200g with fold-up feet

Recommendations?

I use a Topeak Mega Morph in that capacity.

And you like it?

I found a Topeak promo youtube but it avoided showing the user's posture while pumping. How much bending over is involved?

It works for me, but yes, you do end up somewhat bent or crouched when using it (I',m 5'-10). I should also note that I don't run anything higher than 110-115psi. But I like it because it fits completely inside my bag which is a Mountain Smith Bike Cube.

I'm using an Lezyne micro floor drive with in-line gauge as a travel (flying) floor pump. Of course it's a compromise over a standard floor pump and requires a lot more strokes to fill a tire. I like the chuck design. The gauge is not ideal in the way it works and reads, but I figure I can set pressures better than +/- 5 psi with it.

Lezyne has two travel drive pumps. One is steel (https://www.lezyne.com/en/steel-travel-drive) for $60 and the other is CNC aluminum (https://www.lezyne.com/en/cnc-travel-drive) for $100. I have the CNC version, and it is a good compromise between size and capacity. It is small enough to keep in the car or in a bag, and has enough mass to pump tires in a reasonable amount of time and effort.

When I bought mine, the steel version didn't exist. I find that the handle on the CNC version is a bit too small, and looking at the steel version, the wooden handle might be more useful.

Lezyne isn't an option because they typically unscrew my valve cores when removing the head. That's pretty annoying if you've just pumped up a tire with their pocket pump. It's happened 3 times and the last time was after I asked my riding buddy not to help me with that pump. But some bike shop mechanics just know better, don't they? :-)

Amazon sells the Mega Morph for $50 so I guess could return it if I don't like it.
