Computer with data output but not GPS?
I'm wondering if there is a wireless bike computer out there that can measure speed, cadence, distance, and HR over time and export that data to a computer? I have an iPhone I use to track my rides with GPS, so if I could somehow link the data of the two devices, I'd be golden. I see the sigma 9.1, but that's a little pricey. Any suggestions or does anyone know if it is possible to link the two types of data? Should I just be saving to get a garmin? Fwiw, I don't want to get the wahoo type thing that would turn my phone into a full blown computer, I keep it in my pocket. I'd like something with a small head unit that displays all my important data.

I just broke down and bought a Garmin 500. Having all data on one device is easier and convenient. Being able to select what data data is displayed on multiple pages means you don't have to look at all the data all the time or ever. Allot better than the Sigma system I used to use.

Check out the Mavic Wintech http://www.mavic.com/sites/default/f...tech_USB_0.pdf
I don't think using two discreet systems is very easy, since integrating the data to use in a single viewer is either impossible or difficult. For example, the Wintech needs the proprietary software to view data, but then cannot export in a .csv format for upload to sites like Training Camp or Training Peaks. Even if it could, the ride data would be a separate file from the data you upload from the iPhone app; there may be some way to merge the data on the computer before uploading to TP, but if so, it's going to be super geeky and tedious, and I've never heard of anyone accomplishing it. So, if you're looking to view ride data comprehensively, in one program or on one website (e.g. Training Peaks, Garmin Connect, Mapmyride, etc.), you need one device to record stats and GPS. If you're content flipping between two discreet systems to view details on one ride, then it may work for you. My opinion, thusly, is go all iPhone (via Wahoo, remembering RFLKT lets you keep the phone stashed) or go Garmin or Cycleops or Timex or Ultra Two or Mio. Even a base Garmin 200 will spit out more usable data than trying to work with an iPhone + cycle computer setup, which adds lots of steps without resulting in merged data. |

If you know a bit about computer languages and parsing XML files, it shouldn't be too hard syncing the information together (although if your other device isn't GPS, you'll have to worry about time offset). |
I use an FR70 watch (records speed, cadence and heart rate) from Garmin which uploads the data to a PC using ant+ signal to a USB, you'd then have the data on garmin connect.
If you could also import that data to whatever you want then that might be an option. |

I believe you can get bluetooth cadence/heart rate monitors that will hook up to an iPhone. Then you've got everything you need all in one place.

Reconciling the time will be a BIG deal, and only surmountable if your time is worth nothing.

I haven't looked at it too much since I have an Android phone, but there is an iPhone-only product called Wahoo: http://www.wahoofitness.com/

Synchronizing two files is quite straightforward if both devices record at the same rate. A little more work if the time bases are different (i.e. 1.26S per sample for a powertap). There are several programs available for merging wired power and GPS data.

I disagree. If you can figure out the offset, then it's easy. And if you're willing to upload a file a few times and use a binary search, it shouldn't be too bad at all.

I'd love a link to one of those, or a name, if you've got one. I was unaware of these, and would like to see how they work.
For Powertap Data: http://www.topofusion.com/ I've use the first one above a couple of times and it seems to work well if you want to attach power data collected from a wired SRM to Garmin GPS data. |

Thanks. No Mac support on topofusion kills that for me...although it looks like the time investment required to get a gps-power combo file would have killed it for me anyway, but I could certainly put something like to that use.
