Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Meh. Up Nichols Canyon, west on Mulholland and down Sepulveda Blvd into Brentwood for years. Never an issue.

Much more likely is the above - newb or not so good motorcyclist who didn't initiate the lean early enough and then found himself in a deadline in the wrong place at the wrong time. Heck, that happens on bicycles sometimes when you find yourself riding yourself off the road for no good reason at all.
absolutely, my thought exactly...

I've ridden that section for 24 years and never had a problem. It's only been real crazy up there lately, and then only sometimes.
I think all the photographers and videographers cause some of the knuckleheads to over do it.

That's alright, since the guy came out alive... I'm sure once the lawyers are done he'll have several sets of whatever high-end wheels he wants.

Me either, and I'm not even that great a bike handler. However, throw a noob or even experienced motorcyclists with bad luck up there (hundreds per weekend) and you'll get plenty of accidents. I wish I could say I was accident-free but I've accidentally run off the road a bit on my bicycle evne when I was paying attention (mostly).

I'd like to see one case where this phenomena of 'driving right into a cyclist because he was so attention-getting' was used as a valid explanation of a motorcycle or other motor vehicle accident.

Beautiful bikes. Titanium Fireflys with S&S couplers. Frame intact, won't even need new paint.

Carbon would have asploded and killed everybody.

Dude, it has nothing to do with 'attention getting' other than the getting the attention via 'holy **** - I might hit that!'. It happens with pot holes, roadway debris, walls, and the edge of the road. Don't take me supporting the existence of a very well known phenomena as support for the asshats that you said were arguing against blinkies.

What's this well known phenomenon called? People hit stuff on the side of the road because they're NOT paying enough attention, not because they're looking right at it.

Its sad really, spend 10 minutes cruising youtube and you will read the most ignorant and hateful comments you can never imagine. And when it comes to biking videos, there is no end to the "f*** in spandex" "get off the road ****" and so on and so forth. It has turned into one giant complaint box.

It's hard when there are so many of them. You might start to think they represent the general population... Oh wait.

Its called "Target fixation". It means something is in front of you and instead of looking toward the way out, you stay fixated on the object. Motorcycles and bicycles go where your head points. This is a VERY well known phenomena amongst motorcyclists. Just because you havent heard of it, does not mean it doesnt exist.
