New to road bikes
Hola,
I have a trek 3200 mountain bike that I am thinking of turning into my winter bike. I'd like to purchase a road bike and am looking for suggestions. I'm 6'5 and looking for a bike that would be good for longer road trips (75 miles). My budget is tight as I'm a college student.
Thanks!

Replace your tires on your mountain bike with skinny slicks, it best to use what you have and adapt it to benefit your needs.

when you say your budget is tight...how tight? put a number on it.
specialized makes some 64cm models, but finding a used one can be a challenge. at your height you'll probably be in that range as far as size (62cm and higher).
just my two cents. i'm a newbie like you when it comes to road bikes, but i'm 6'4" and have been searching for a budget road bike for a while and i'm struggling to find something on my budget.

I agree with the skinnier and smooth tires on the MTB idea. For the least expensive way would be to put the narrowest tire that will fit those rims then buy some smooth treaded tires like the Conti Sport Contact and the lightest tubes you can get. Another option is to buy lighter weight wheels that are a size narrower then you have now thus allowing you to use even narrower tires. The combination of lighter wheels with lighter tires and tubes will change the way the bike rides from a sluggish ride to a faster more responsive ride. Then keep your old rims and/or tires for off road stuff.
