Cycling Glasses - Ryders Eyeware / Caliber

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cycling Glasses - Ryders Eyeware / Caliber

I am new to road biking, and slowly collecting gears as I start riding.

Got a bunch of DHB branded stuff from Wiggle, like bibs, gloves, arm/leg warmers, Balaclava. and Some PDK Jersey's from ProBikeKit. Mostly house brands from respected web-sites, keeping the budget low, and upgrading to better gears later as I get more serous into the sport. I also got bottles and cages on order from wiggle, Diadora Helmet from Sports Chek. Mavic Fury MTB shoes from ebay, and M530 pedals again from Wiggle.
I know its MTB shoes/pedal, but I enjoy the ability to walk. Road pedal will come if I get more hardcore.

Finally, the last 2 items on my list are cycling glasses and a cycling computer.

Computer, I am looking at the Specialized Sport Wireless $40, I really like how they can mount on top of the stem, and the big numbers for the speed. Any other makes with this type of mount?

Glasses, the Ryders Eyeware - Caliber.

Tried them on at a Local Bike Shop in Toronto (Sporting Life), and I really like the looks of them. The sale guy suggested the Oakley and Smith, but I just can't justify the price being 3-5 times of the Ryders Eyeware. Maybe the next pair, but not the first.

My Questions

1) Anyone have experience with this brand (Ryders Eyeware), I am looking at the Caliber model.

2) Would the Photochromic be ideal, or just use the money to buy 2 other pairs?

3) Do these ever go on sale somewhere?

Ryders Eyeware:
Caliber Basic - $40
Caliber Interchangeable with three lens kit - $60
Caliber Photochromic - $80

There was a fun thread, many years ago, about a lawsuit against the company.

Honestly, I don't know anyone that wears them, and have never seen them at a bike shop.

Oh wow, was the lawsuit regarding copyrights or safety/Quality problem? Should I be staying away from this Brand?

The lawsuit was regarding safety, but most people here seemed to side with the company, and thought they were in no way at fault.

It was quite an entertaining thread.

I've seen Ryder's Eyewear at Interbike, and FWIW their product is very similar to Tifosi in terms of quality.

I have owned multiple pairs of Ryder's sunglasses. I have found them to be well made and have always held up well to any abuse I put them through. The optics are really good and can find not a single flaw to report. Here in Tucson AZ, they are stocked in both of the factory Trek stores. Buy them, you will not be disappointed.

I really like my Tifosi Photochromatic lenses. Don't need to worry about changing lenses unless you want a completely different color lens. They work great in low light and get very dark in bright sunlight.

I have a pair of zypher and I like them a lot considering how cheap they were. I use them solely as my driving glasses. I prefer oakley for cycling... the ryders fogged up way too easily.

Ryders/Tifosi are not junk, but there is a definite difference in frame quality and lens clarity.
