Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's been done! (pictures)

The deal has been made, I have just bought my first road bike! Goodbye mountains, time for a change of scenery! Just got back from ridding 30 miles just around town. Rides like a dream and after the last post, the tech got his hands on the bike and the thing shifts like butter now. Could not be happier-- she is a real beauty.

Thanks for all your input over the past few weeks guys!

Very, very sexy!

Such an attractive color scheme and from what I hear a very well built bike.

WOW.....nice rig mate. Not usually a fan of red, but it contrasts the matte grey / black very nicely on this bike. Enjoy it!

cheers

Excellent bike!

I might as well say it since someone will eventually, photos should be taken with the drive train facing the camera and the bike leaning against a white garage door. You should always factor the cost of building a garage into cycling expenses so you can get the perfect photo.

Don't forget to factor in the new camera/lights, fresh paint for said garage door and a new dress for the podium girl!

Reserving judgement on aesthetics until cages are mounted

Tough choice. Red, no. Shiny black, no. White? Only if you change to white saddle and bartape as well. They really need to be the same matte color as the frame methinks.

What do you mean goodbye mountains? Just because you bought a road bike doesn't mean you're allowed to avoid hills.

nice bike! Ride the crap out of it!

Thanks guys! The bike has only gotten sexier since I've been riding it. About to take her out for a night ride right now.
Doh!! and I'll remember to put the gear side forward next time, but I don't have a white garage door so you guys gotta suck it up haha

I paid $1347 +tax for it, and it is new. It was on sale, however.

and I say goodbye mountains because I used to ride Downhill MTB, but my knees are starting to take on wear and tear from the impacts, so it's pavement mostly from here on out.

Beautiful bike congrats and enjoy the ride! Now what are your plans for pedals? Clipless will make the riding far more enjoyable and efficient...

I've grown very fond of my CAAD10, but I have to admit, this Supersix colourway makes me want to switch. Such a great look IMHO. Congrats!

Is that for it is sitting as is? Perhaps I could pull that off... I'd like to see what the 2014 CAAD10s looks like first, or if we're getting the CAAD11.

Thanks brotha. Yea, I actually have the Shimano Ultegra PD-A600's sitting next to me. It's their regular SPD road pedal. Just waiting on some road shoes.

I took 3 days of in-store test rides and contemplation, so not in a heartbeat, but I don't have one single regret. Amazing bike.

All of my buddies have been drooling over this bike, but who cares, they're opinions don't matter....what matters is that I have to wipe my top tube occasionally because I drool over the bike haha. Yea, the LBS didn't do swaps and to be honest, everything on the bike was fine except the saddle, naturally.
