hot spots

I'm about to buy my first pair of speedplays, but I hear you need really stiff soles to not develop hot spots. Speedplay themselves argue that they have big platform area, but riders I know say you definitely feel the pedal as being a smal ball under your feet. How would my sidi millennium 2 soles hold up? Thanks for all input.

Hot spots are usually either a shoe flex or cleat placement problem. As far as your foot is concerned, the sole of the shoe is the platform. The pedal is an attachment point.
