Took a spill today and had a question about my bike

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Took a spill today and had a question about my bike

So I took a spill today and am okay. Corner down hill I checked my bike over and had to realign the front and rear calipers and that appeared it... I had an issue w/ my chain stay however... The paint PEELED... imagine SPLINTING off, I'll take a picture if it helps illustrate the point.

The question I have however is that w/ the splint of the paint it appears the carbon fiber very thin layer splinted as well horizontally.

I don't see a break in the carbon or anything like that but am just curious if this "missing" carbon will affect me? I would love to take it to a carbon fiber repair facility but don't have the funds at this moment and am hoping I can get a general idea on what I'm in for.

I took the bike around the block around some fairly tough terrain and it all appeared fine. Thanks a lot in advance

Here is a pic, it's a really thin layer, might just be paint but it was caused by the derailer cable.

I would have your shop look at it. If that frame breaks at 20-30 mph you will have more things broken than a frame.

When I damaged the chainstay once on a carbon frame (that required repair), you could tap on it and tell from the sound that there was a structural difference in the damaged area. You could also just push on the damaged area and feel it was softer than the surrounding carbon. You are just guessing though by looking at it yourself or posting in on the internet.

Based on the one repair I had done, I would guess it would cost you $300-500 to have it rewrapped and repainted.

I agree except the price is more in the $200 - $300 range.

Take a coin and tap first a good surface area and then where the damage is. Listen for a difference in sound and even muted, softer sensation.

If I do it send it in for repairs do any of you guys know of a Southern California repair facility that would not require me to disassemble or reassemble the bike? I spent a good amount money of the fit and am hoping to not waste all that =T.

You'll have to take all the stuff off the frame, but that's no reason to lose the fit. Measure/mark/photograph stuff so you can't put it back in the same position when reassembling it.
