Shimano Ultegra STI-6510 shifter name plates

Shimano Ultegra STI-6510 shifter name plates

Hey friends. I was hoping y'all could give me some advice. I recently purchased a used Canyon road bike with Ultegra components, I believe its an early 2000 model. The bike and components are in excellent condition, but I lost a shifter name plate and damaged the other one when I moved earlier this year. I have found that the name plates are discontinued and I can't find any replacements ANYWHERE. I know they are not necessary to ride, but Im worried I wont be able to find other components if anything else wears out or breaks. I have considered selling it before this happens and upgrading to a nicer ride. Does anyone know where I might be able to find these shifter name plates? Or would you suggest selling the bike before I need any replacement components? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yes, very hard to find; but:

5510 and r600 work just as well,

there is no way I'd sell just because of nameplates as most other 9-speed parts are easy to come by,

and I've got one 6510 nameplate I could sell you.

Start taking a look around on ebay...I found a set there a few years ago and as I recall there were quite a few of them listed.

If the 6500 ones are the same, they're available on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Shimano-ST-650...ano+name+plate

6510 are different than the older 6500. They are very rare now, and impossible to find retail. Even r600s are rare now.

Hey dtrain. I sent you a private message about the name plate. Thanks. And thanks for the responses guys. I found a few places online that carried them about a year ago, but can't find them anywhere now. Even ebay doesn't have any. Same with the 105 5510s. Bummer, not sure why shimano discontinued them because it seems like plenty of people could use them.

Sorry, to bump an old thread, but I am in a similar boat. I just bought a used 2004 Trek 520 and it looks like the guy installed Shimano STI-6510 brifters on them. The name plates are pretty beat up, and I'd love to replace. Any tips on how to find a pair of nameplates?

Also in the same boat and have been unable to find any, anywhere on the net! Are any of the other 6500 models compatible to use in this case? So annoying that something so innocuous spoils the look of a bike....

I've got a 2001 Norco RD-2 with Ult 6500 and had the same issue last year - ended up just buying a new pair of shifters, which I got for a decent price.

Ebay is the go I reckon.

Good luck.

The last pair of nameplates that sold on ebay went for almost $70. They don't show up very often.

Hi there I had some of these printed by a 3D printing shop. Look for them on eBay.

The one I see is $50. Is that the one?

What search words should I use?

Not sure this went thru. But try looking for shimano STI 6510 name plate. They are black and come in a pair. I have tried to post the link but it's not working.

They look a little rough, but much better than broken ones.

I am working on the possibly of getting more printed and also "maybe" using a company to chrome coat them using an electrostatic process. It an outside shot at the moment but I'm working on it.

Hey there just an update for any who may be looking for these. Chrome plating turned out to be way too expensive. I have them on eBay in a glossy silver and also gun metal black. Cheers Benny

Finding repair parts for older Shimano stuff is hard. The only place I could find a replacement nameplate for Dura Ace 7800 shifters was from a site in South Korea of all places.
