Nuts fat = Faster?

"These advantages show how high-fat diets positively correlate to workout performance. Adding healthy fats to your diet, such as avocado, olive oil, nuts and seeds, are simple ways to increase your fat intake."

DO NUTS INCREASE METABOLISM?

= Faster?

noglider 05-20-13 02:08 PM

Well, I just added tons of nuts and olive oil to my diet, and it makes me feel fantastic. I don't measure my performance, so I can't say it increased, but I'm really enjoying this new diet. I often skip breakfast and lunch, because I'm snacking on fruits and nuts the whole day.

Now I have to ride to the supermarket and make dinner. Woohoo.

Nuts fat? Get a bib that is one size larger or remove the chamois. If anything you won't be needing chamois cream...you'll be self lubricating.

Deez Nuts?

Nobody here reads Livestrong articles. Rule 51.

You said you're a cat 3. You should know enough about cycling that you don't have to come to the 41 and start troll bait threads every day.

1. I said I was a 3. More than 15 years ago. Get it straight,

2. Troll bait threads? WTF are you smoking?

and obviously you don't have anything better to do than reply to them...

You sound very frustrated and angry. Try some therapy. Be sure to tell the therapist that the topic of Nuts Fat strikes a nerve for some reason.

Greg LeMond was quoted as saying diet doesn't matter, that you could race on twinkies and coke for nutrition.

I am not sure that I agree with him, but trying to find an "edge" through nutrition is most likely 99% placebo.

Don't get me wrong, good nutrition is important for overall health, but unlikely to give you any type of performance boost.

Sorry, no shortcuts unless you want PEDs.

50% of cycling is 90% mental.

Does this explain why I've gotten faster since I started putting a handful of chopped Pecans in my oatmeal? (I tried using the tastier walnuts in my oatmeal, but those give me a case of the sulfurous stinkies, with regard to my digestion byproducts.)

^ good nutrition is of course a healthful practice...no genius there. PED's, of course, an unhealthy practice, again, no revelation.

Placebo aside, your edge does come from diet and nutrition all in balance, for you individually, along with exercise and sleep. A mantra to follow: exercise for endurance, eat for recovery, sleep for performance.

Here is where "no shortcuts" mean something. It's a higher order acknowledgement of a complex system working for your best. It represents not only a "boost" but a sustained level of your optimal performance.

LeMond (if that was his quote) has a lead excuse. Regardless, while a nonsense, stupid quote...it is funny.

I'm a believer. I cut out nearly all carbs on doctor's orders (not a fad diet, but due to high level of triglyceride cholesterol). Now I eat tons of nuts, and avocados, sunflower seeds, etc. (I miss drinking bear, but it's a good thing I like whisky, too.) My workouts haven't changed significantly, but I've dropped 35-lbs since November (222-lbs. to 187-lbs this morning). Also, if you drink coffee, adding half & half is better than milk, since milk causes higher insulin production. YMMV.

If you are in ketosis at leasst ten pounds of that weight loss is water, which will return post haste when you come out of ketosis.

Beer raises HDL cholesterol; you don't have to cut it out completely; life's too short.

OK make fun of the guy if you want. I read his second link, and whether or not it improves one's performance, it seems like a good idea for several other reasons. We eat too many animals and not enough plants.
