Looking for a Good Price on Complete Dura-Ace 7900 Groupset, Any Leads?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looking for a Good Price on Complete Dura-Ace 7900 Groupset, Any Leads?

I know I'm late, but I didn't want to order one before I got my tax refund in hand. Does anyone have any leads on a great price aside from e-bay on a 7900 Dura-Ace groupset?

Don't buy 7900. What groupsets have you ridden? I owned it. Read some reviews. If you can bite the bullet and wait for new Ultegra 11s do that. It is everything 7900 isn't. If you are feeling richer...DA 9000 is here and excellent.

Right now I'm riding on the DA-7800, I wanted to upgrade to the DA-7900 for a while but waited for the price to come down as the DA-9000 came out. I heard that with the DA-9000 11 spds they might not work with the 10 spd wheels, that's why I wanted the DA-7900.

What is better about the 7900 over 7800? The only thing I recall is the shifter and brake cable run under the bar tape. And they added the ugly crank set.

I'm currently running 7800 and am curious what real advantadges are.

From personal experience, my 11 year old Ultegra nine-speed triple front shifts better than new DA7900. I like the hidden shifter cables and the shape of the 7900 hoods better, but it's not worth all the missed front shifts.

Depending on your wheelset, you may be able to just get an adapter freehub body (not sure if that is the right term) to make it work with 11 speed.

Hey I have 7800 and would trade for a 7900 crank any day...the 7800 crank is the eyesore of the group IMHO

I really do not see the point of having a mechanical DA 10 sp for $200-300 more (check prices online) than a Ultegra Di2 groupset...that's unless you really like the "feedback" of a mechanical group. I would understand it better if someone needed 11sp (at this point).

7800 was the cleanest and tightest mechanical group I've ever used.

Yes the DA-7800 shifts very nice & smooth, but my understanding is that the DA-7900 has a shorter throw on the shift meaning closer ratio, just like a short throw shifter in a car and overall lighter weight.

I'm on worn out 7800 but it still shifts like butter. I would wait and add next years return for DI2.

Ribble has a full (includes chain, cassette, crank, brakes, etc.) DA 9000 group for $1,650 or full Di2 Ultegra for $1,350. If you're worried about keeping 10 sp wheels, i'd get Di2 Ultegra over 7900. It looks like they don't even sell 7900 stuff anymore.

Some hub manufacturers have come up with new parts that you can put on an old hub to make it 11 sp compatible. You would also need to redish the wheel after swapping the parts though. What wheels/hubs do you have now?

I'm using the Mavic Ksyriums.

You might want to double check with someone more familiar with the Mavic lineup, but it looks like you can just swap the freehub and re-dish.
