Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I watched the Wounded Warriors race at Redlands Classic, puts a tear in your eye to see them work so hard to overcome their life obstacles. Most of the hand-cycle fellows need to be sprayed with water every lap to be cooled down; issues with body not able to counteract overheating.

"Usually". That is, not always. Like the OP's (which wasn't really funny either). And, as you should know, not eveybody finds the same things funny.

I agree the attempt fell flat.

But it's really obvious that he couldn't have been serious.

Yes. His attempt fell a bit flat, in my opinion, but sometimes that happens with attemps at humor (that's the risk one takes).

I was just joking because I'm an FJ driver.

Also, my FJ has been far from nice to my wallet. Offroad bling is expensive...but it looks like a beast and will take me anywhere I need to go in the desert, so I guess that's a decent tradeoff.

Because it was never intended to be a joke. I obviously know what the "popcorn" means and I knew what was to come (well, not right out of the gate with the "idiot" comment which MIGHT have been interpreted as "funny" without the use of the term "idiot").

The kind of response I was hoping for came from PhotoJoe. Everything else deserves the popcorn.

I think you need to sort out your whole concept of a joke.

Only DonDenver knows the intent of his comment. The rest of us are just speculating and responded according to what can be perceived as the gist of his not so funny remark. It is just a sensitive subject for me and I lashed out. My apologies.

I just checked it out. You might note to someone that while donating and signing up to ride seem pretty easy, trying to volunteer could be made a bit easier. That said. I found my way through and I'm doing to do my level best to help out.

Thanks for mentioning it. Best use I've gotten from BF in a while.

You are absolutely right, the website could use an easier way to navigate. We've all put in the suggestions to improve, but things move slowy.

Thanks for checking it out.

Seemed fairly clear to me that Don didn't understand the SUV was providing support on an organized ride.

Open road, with overtaking traffic, there would be a valid criticism of the lane position.

Still don't see the joke.

I've read it and re-read it several times. I don't see it either.

Nice. I'm trying to put together a memorial day ride, maybe out to Kitchen Creek, if you're interested.

Yep, I'm SpeshulEd on there as well but I don't get on much anymore. This board has been eating up most of my spare time as of late.

Then, you are just being careless. How did you want people to interprete the thread title? I'm assuming you used the standard polemical thread title as an attempt to be funny.

You certainly didn't provide any detail (I'm assuming you did that deliberately).

You obviously are not being very careful.

You set your thread up as some sort of attempt at humor given the thread title and with the "popcorn" comment. That it backfired is due to your carelessless.

The thread title used the standard polemical "Damn roadies..." (and the dopey "popcorn" comment).

The OP did the same thing that other people are complaining about!

The OP didn't provide any detail about the photo (I assumed, delibrately, but the OP appears to be insisting that he's just clueless).

It's not like there is anything in the photo that could be remotely considered "idiotic".

Whooosh!!

It seems clear that the OP made a mistake in 1) not providing an informative title and 2) not explaining in the post what was going on. Instead, he set things up so that he would be misunderstood and then complains when he's misunderstood.

What needs explaining? It's a Roadie giving a recumbent rider a helping hand, something atypical of the "roadie jerk" attitude...which the title alludes to. There is no joke because there is no punchline. The title plays off a stereotype, the image alone counters that stereotype...no explaining needs to be done.

Then of course the first responder ruins a sentimental moment, and then you overanalyze and yap from the bench, typical BF. No wonder I have not posted in almost 6 years.
