Just got my Vuelta Corsa Lite wheelset in, does this sound right?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Listen especially at 0:23, I've never heard a freehub spin with a click like that before. Did I get a defective unit?

Sounds odd. Almost like a cable hitting one of the spokes.

I just checked and all cables have a LOT of clearance from all spokes. I also just noticed that the wheel clicks exactly three times per rotation each time by watching the valve stem which rules out any source other than the hub itself.

Any other Corsa Lite owners care to chime in?

That sounds like an issue with a pawl. Remove the cassette and check the freehub by hand.

I really hope Crank is right but the freehub clicks the same way without the cassette on. I respect both of your opinions pretty much equally, do you think I need to make the return exchange? bianchi10, what say you?

There is certainly ones click that is more pronounced than the others. It is distinct and cyclic. It is definitely from a fixed point as the frequency matches the rotation of the wheel.

Does the freehub turn smoothly and easily in your hand?

Do you feel any notch unless when you turn the axle with your fingers?

The freehub spins very smoothly and spins seemingly forever and I definitely don't feel any notch, this is strictly audible.

I know a few others on here have the same wheelset, really wish they would say something.

Mine never sounded that loud, and I have the same wheelset. Might be no grease, but mine had plenty out of the box...

Honestly, I'm not technically knowledgeable enough to trust. Psimet and those guys on the mechs forum would know.

"do you think I need to make the return exchange?"

When in doubt, swap it out.

I don't have it either. When I first got my set the freewheel sound was quieter than I expected - within a few weeks it got louder and has since leveled off to noticeable but not obnoxious level.

Definitely sounds like an issue to me.

My Vuelta freehubs have always been mostly silent. I'd exchange. For reference, I recently had to do an immediate exchange on my Vuelta wheels and the first hub was silent, second was louder but not as loud as yours. Same hub make and model. Each one is different.

Only one step necessary here; return it for a new one. No inspection needed, it shouldn't make that noise.

Mine are about as loud as the one in the video, albeit without the odd third click.

You can use the $6.95 shipping label that they included with your order, I think it covers the total cost of shipping, even the oversize charge.

Like how you guys glossed over bdop's input - as he's been in the industry for years.

To echo him - its a pawl issue. It's hard slapping one area in the ring gear. I'd pull it apart and check it (as it takes like 3 minutes). Grease it (use a super light non viscous grease) and go with it.

I actually took bdop's input as the heart of my problem but I've never taken apart a hub before, don't yet know what a pawl is (I'm sure I can educate myself in 5min), and am not quite sure I want to void warranty. Care to give a quick step by step on how to take it apart?

I ordered the shimano set but it very well could be the campy setup. My Shimano 8 speed cassette went on fine and shifts extra smooth, though.

This! That click will always bother you, even if people tell you that the wheel is OK.

You paid good money for new wheels, you should be 100% happy with them.
