Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up ordering a Hirame pump head and will see if it will work with my Lezyne pump. I ordered it from this place for $62 with shipping. If it is a high quality head and if it will last many years it is worth it to me for something I use every single day.

The Lezyne "slip chuck" gets lousy reviews and is probably worthless. I have had a couple Topeak pumps and they are ok but don't last forever. I am definitely willing to pay a little more for something better.

Late to the party, but I've been really happy with my Bontrager pump (don't know if they make it themselves or if it's rebranded), 'specially since I have a mix of presta and schrader valves in the house. The rubber grommet in the head will eventually wear out, but it's cheap to replace and it'll take 60 seconds.

The JoeBlow Sprint has been very reliable. I did replace the twinhead a few years back, but after switching to non-threaded stems, its been working like a charm.

I've had a $24 Hurricane from Performance for a couple of years that works great. It has a double-sided head with two advantages:
1. Can handle both schrader and presta without having to fiddle with adaptors. Great for pumping up kid tires. Also, seals well and quickly on both types of valves.
2. Pump head design blows off built-up pressure instantaneously when you flip the quick release. This means that a presta valve snaps shut instantly and prevents you from losing pressure.

The barrel is too short and the pressure gauge is about 4psi off (judging by a quality pressure guage I own), but overall this is a great design.

I like the pump head you got. I might try it too.

I agree that Lezyne twist on heads are awful. It seems the company finally understood the design doesn't work well and tried a quick fix with the slip on head, which also is poor.

I like both my Leyzne thread on, and my Silica push on. Both are several years old and work great.

Leyzne about 3 years old. The Silica is maybe 8-10 years.

You did the right thing purchasing that Hirame chuck. However, the hose on the Lezynes are very skinny, so the Hirame chuck won't slip onto them. That is why I suggested you get a reliable pump like a Park Tool whose hoses the Hirame chuck can fit on. I know b/cos I've been there.

Once you see and use the Hirame chuck, you'll appreciate what a well-designed and functional piece of equipment it is.

Why not simply replace the chuck? Several companies provide spare chucks for purchase, including Topeak, Silca, Hirame, and so on. Some of them come with multiple adapters to fit whatever hose you have, and some of the above companies also sell new hose kits with adapters to fit your particular pump. I have an old Rennkompressor whose pump head finally fell apart. I bought a Topeak hose kit with the smart chuck and one of the adapters fit my pimp perfectly.

FWIW- another vote for the Specialized. I bought one last year to replace an old Pedro's that refused to let go of the valve stem. The Specialized has worked great.

yes you can. The JoeBlow Pro is terrible. the head is doesnt disengage well from the presta and i've had to get stitches to my hand after my i forced it off and my hand hit the cassette. I've also bent the the valve tip on multiple tubes with that POS. The yellow Joe Blow sport II is fine and the specialized comp that i have is the best of those three

Me too. Couldn't put it on my Lezyne pump, so I put my Hirame chuck on a Specialized Airtool Sport.

I'm another that says Joe Blows suck or blow. Had two that broke and went with Specialized.

I've had a couple Joe Blow and at least three Performance Hurricane pumps fail. I've also replaced the heads on each one, and they failed too.
Now I've got the Lezyne floor pump and find the twist on head a bit annoying, but if it lasts me more than five or ten years, i'll be happy.

No, the Hirame chuck won't fit Lezyne hoses. Spend a little bit more and buy a Park Tool pump (which are great, save the chucks), then fit your Hirame chuck onto that with a $2 stainless steel hose clamp from Home Depot. You can then sell your Lezyne pump on Craigslist or eBay. You'll be set for the next twenty years or so.

Alternatively, do not buy another floor pump. Just fit the Hirame chuck onto your Joe Blow.

I'll add another vote for Specialized Air Tool. I've got the comp and it works great.

Lezyne needs a narrow hose. Hirame needs a wider one -- won't fit in the narrow hose. Much better to get another pump if you want to use a Hirame chuck.

Blackburn Air Tower. Lifetime warranty. I've had mine for 8-10 years. I did have a problem last year with the head with theh rubber seal wearing out after years of almost daily use. I emailed them and they sent me 2 replacement heads free of charge. Great pump and great customer service. Plus old guys like me can read the guage because it's at the top of the pump .
