Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Selle Italia Monolink

I know saddles are personal...that said, I have been considering trying the Selle Italia monolink "system" which requires a special seatpost along with saddle.

Anyone tried it??

Impressions?

No not that one but I have a few Selle along with Fizik, PRO, Bontrager, etc. Just bought a new Fizik Kurve Bull and a Prologo Scratch Ti/Carbon..whatever other acronym they throw around these days.
Only problem I see with the Monolink is; if it doesn't work for you you are out a pretty penny, knowing that the system isn't cheap.

Haven't bike companies learned a thing or two about these proprietary "systems" yet?

If the seatpost on my De Rosa was not monolink ready, I probably would've never tried it. The cost of the proprietary seatpost and saddle seems a bit extreme when similar non-monolink SLR saddles do the job.

I've ridden 2200+miles on the De Rosa, all with the monolink SLR XC Flow. It is shaped narrower at the nose, hence Selle's "friction free" design and I do notice less rubbing or friction when compared to the Superflow SLR on my Ridley. Since dialing it in, the saddle has stayed in position and no issues with the saddle tilting or fore/aft slippage even with my 180+lb weight. Its not flexy but with the right amount of give when sitting towards the back of the saddle on climbs.

Its feels similar to other SLR saddles I've had in the past, but the narrower nose would be the only edge I would give it. It'd be great if a larger cutout as found on the Superflow SLR could be integrated in their next model of monolink saddles.

I have a Selle Italia SLR Monolink system. It's very light but firm. No flexing whatsoever. I love that it's very easy to adjust. You can slide it forwards or backward very easily. No complaints other than you're limited in saddle choices but I wouldn't trade brands anyways. Anyways, my seat post has an adapter for a regular saddle. So it's win-win for me.
