Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

Completed my first century yesterday.

Spindletop spin in beaumont. 100 miles at 17.8mph. 5 hrs. 28 mins. Also, spent the last 20 miles motorpacing at like 22-25 mph and hit a manhole cover and took a massive nutshot which left me vomiting on the side of the road, but I finished.

Ouch.

Good time for 100mi without random/aimless exploring. I can't help but explore/site see a bit @ <10mph when I'm 50mi away from home. One of these days I'll try a hard 100mi and keep 5.5 hrs in mind.

Bravo. The century, not the nut shot. And in the kind of heat we have been having, too. You da man!

I did a century yesterday too...I didn't realize it at the time, but when I uploaded the ride I noticed it was exactly 160 kms long.
