My personal instructor.
If you don't mind my saying, the stuff the rest of you fellows are showing off is just plain ugly. I do not know what dunking is. But if you do, and are anxious to talk about it with someone, I will listen. Yes, I have a beautiful girlfriend, but explaining to you how to get one is both futile and beyond the scope of this thread, which is about utilizing free space on a road bike to store items without using the hideous storage packs you already have and which make you look like you should be in plus-fours and smoking a pipe while pedaling off to see your uncle Ingstrom. |

This is what I have..

You know, I'm thinking of just buying a cheap water bottle and stuffing that with my gear and ditching the bag. I carry a lot of stuff, relatively speaking, because I ride alone and don't have anyone to call if I get in an emergency (I'm kind of a hermit) so want to make sure that I have everything to fix flats and minor mechanical breakdowns. But the bag bothers me because my leg rubs against it sometimes. I have two bottle holders installed but only use the second one on really hot days but could just as easily throw the second water bottle in a jersey pocket. Hmmmmm....

easy on easy off. I think I might use it from now on, because it give you more space to put in more stuff, and it lets you carry it around very easiy, in case you put your phone/keys in there. |
I can say this about that (water bottle thingie)...it drives me nuts when I have ice cubes rattling around in my bottles, but I know they're gonna melt quick...if there's noise from all that junk bouncing around...I'm gonna find a different approach.

Neat but what do you do when you go on a longer ride where you need more than one bottle of water?

Amen. You know, this forum really lives up to its reputation on a daily basis. I wear a friggin' bladerless Camelbak and don't even know its there. We come up with these creative ways to strap stuff to our bikes then complain about how heavy they are so we try to save a few grams here and there by spending hundreds of dollars on lighter wheels.

Well, I can only speak for myself but I personally don't like the feeling of much weight on me. A cell phone and a couple granola bars is pretty much it for what I like to have in the jersey pockets.
I guess I fall in the camp where whether the weight is on you or the bike it really doesn't matter as it's collective weight....but I'm sure that could be argued. I'd just rather carry more on the bike and Gerry's tube carrier looked kind of cool. Given his current forum status I doubt I'll find out exactly what he used though. |

So I know this thread is beat up and just about over but....
Whats wrong with saddle bags that "dangle"? so what. it doesnt get in my way while pedaling or cause my bike to sway side to side, or rub on my tire, or anything that I can see as a negative. I say let it hang, no solution needed if there is no problem. |
