Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Favorite hot weather post ride drink....Other than water

I have a thing for ice cream, which is certainly not good for me. As a result of that addiction, I started making myself an alternative last year.

1 cup of 2% milk
A good squirt of chocolate syrup
1 tablespoon of smooth peanut butter
1/4 banana
Tall glass of ice cubes

Throw it all in a blender and instant frozen chocolate shake without all the useless fat and sugar.

I think it is good anyway.

Any other better ideas?

Beer.

I drink plenty of water and sports drink during the ride. When I'm done, I want beer.

Ditto the water. Rarely have a sports drink, during or after. After most rides, winter or summer, I'll have chocolate milk, 1% or 2%, without high fructose corn syrup (gone from my diet). But after that, BEER IS BEST. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale or IPA (Torpedo) really fits the bill with almost all the food groups in a bottle.

i am glad somebody mentioned beer. it actually is a great recovery drink, helps you sleep which can be very hard to do after racing a crit that ends at 10.30pm and you're jacked up on red bull.

If your boss frowns upon that (mine doesn't), then a coke from a Mexican grocery store is the best. they import them directly from Mexico so they are made with real sugar and none of that high fructose corn syrup stuff.

Red Bull...
Is it odd that I like it after a ride instead of sometime during it?

Coke Zero or Pepsi Max ....... or if I'm in the mood for something citrus, half and half orange juice and Sprite (or other lemon-lime carbonated beverage) is nice.

Yep. After every ride, regardless of season. Before anything else.

Maybe a beer after the shower.

Many Wal Marts in the U.S. in cities with even a modest hispanic population have Mexican-bottled Coke. It's like, the best ever.

But I like iced tea with mint from my garden and just a bit of sugar after rides. On my rides I usually have two bottles of water and one of tea.

Any kind of pale ale in the warmer months. Telluride Bridal Veil is one of my favorite post ride beers. Deschutes Red Chair was awesome when it was still the seasonal as well. Winter months... anything goes. Sometimes I'll want a stout if it's cold as balls outside, but it depends on the day and the ride.

Chocolate Ensure. I don't have milk in the fridge and the Ensure has a one year expiration date.
