Disapponted in choice of frame colors
When I grew up the choices were... Varsity, Continental, Super Sport or Paramount. Each model came in approximately 2 or 3 colors. And at the time I really loved those colors.
Don't get me wrong, there are some sexy looking all black bikes out there. Besides those, it seems the only other choice is someting with what I would consider extreme graphics. I'd sure like to see some more solid colors out there (and not just Red). I think I've finally found my next purchase but now I have to struggle with the choice if I want to send it out and have it repainted.
That is all.

My bicycles:
Tandem - sparkly bright ocean blue (blue-green)
Titanium - titanium with British Racing Green fork and accents
Touring - royal blue
Racing - yellow with silver, black, and white trim
Single speed - dark ocean blue
Fixed gear - gold
Mtn bike - yellow with silver, black and white trim
(I think that's all of them)
Not a black or red in the bunch.
But I wouldn't mind something in purple. Hmmm ... looks like I'll have to get another bicycle.

Choice of frame material will have a lot to do with your chance for satisfaction. Carbon is least likely to make you happy as it is the most highly decorated. Custom steel is a no brainer, because you can specify exactly how you want it finished. And titanium is also a good choice, because it is rarely painted. Sometimes it is etched. If you like that, you are golden. If it comes with decals and you want some paint, you are still okay, because the decals are usually simple, and they can be reapplied over a simple paint job (and under clear coat).
Getting back to carbon, it seems to me that Giant offers both excellent frames and rather more simple decorating schemes. Their decals (if not painted on) could be reapplied over a solid color paint job to give a very nice look.
Keep us informed of your search. I find this an interesting topic.

Both my bikes now are orange, one solid colored and the other has a cream head tube. Well, they are lugged steel too so my bike and color choices are not something that local bike shops seem to cater to...but I like it that way.
I totally agree with the Op on the way most paint jobs on bikes look. I do find most modern bike really ugly, but there are some really nice looking ones too. The hot or not thread does have some stunning bikes, but many looks are killed by loud graphics. I don't like the billboard letters and "racing stripes" that most modern bikes seem to have and it really destroys what could be a really good looking bike.
You can do a project one madone or domane though and get solid colors....got to pay for it though.

If you like Italian steel, Torelli makes frames in many different standard colors and you can get custom colors too.
