Rear rack on a (Specialized) carbon seatpost OK?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rear rack on a (Specialized) carbon seatpost OK?

Unless I'm an idiot, which is ALWAYS possible, I don't see frame attachment points for a rear rack on my 2008 Specialized Sequoia Elite. This leaves me with seat-post racks.... right? This bike has the carbon post with the Zertz stuff in it.

I am not planning on heavy touring; more like light touring or a zip to the grocery store, which makes for a nice 12-miler in my rural area.

I'm sure the LBS will have an answer but I thought I'd ask the brain trust here first.

All the best!

The manufacturer's answer is don't so it.

That said we've used a seatpost rack on the stoker's CF seatpost on our tandem without any issue. Just be careful when you tighten it, not to crush it.

The CF seatpost for the captain is taking a lot more stress with the stoker's handlebar's clamped to it, and the stoker hammering out of the saddle.

Even if the bike doesn't have rack mounts, that's not your only option.

There's several racks now that will mount to your bike without specific bike mounts, by using the brake mount.

Here's one (Ventura Universal Bicycle Carrier Rack) -

The Axiom Streamliner will work if there are no mounts on the rear triangle whatsoever -

I would get a seat collar bracket for your rack. I bought a Salsa one for my wife's bike and it works great.

There is also a rack made by Arkel, I believe, that mounts to the rear of the saddle and seat post. The design isn't cantilevered from the post so much less stress than a conventional seat post rack. This rack will also work with aero posts. It sounds like a good option for your situation.
