5700 shifters with 5600 brakes???
Want to upgrade my 5600 shifters to 5700 and I know I have change the FD to 5700/6700.
I have read though a lot of threads about the brakes and some say yes some say no and some say they will work but only so-so. Just hoping to find out for sure how 5600 brakes will perform with 5700 shifters.
Thank you

^Shimano tech doc seems to say the braking power is slightly less when using 5700 brifters with 5600 calipers. Doesn't say they are incompatible tho.

I switched my ST5600s out for 5700s - no issues with braking (with BR5600s). Honestly, rear shifting isn't quite as good as before, but it's still good and worth it for the cleaner cockpit.

Bike came with an RD-6600 that's still there.
Swapped in an FD-6700 when the cage on the original FD-5600 snapped. Front shifting is way better, btw, but I'm not exactly sure why - the FD shouldn't have made much difference, and I don't think that the left shifter should have, either (although my 5600 left shifter was one of the original batch, made for a triple but with one gear locked out - that may have been the culprit [they later went to two distinct models, I think, after numerous failures]).

Thanks for the info guys! I was hoping not to replace my brakes they almost new as I swapped them out with org non branded shimano brakes it came with.
I have a 5700 RD already so I should be good there. But I may replace the 5600 FD for a 5700 or 6700 when I do the shifters just to be done.
Really glad to know the brakes will be ok!
