I so hate my bike pump!!!!!!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I so hate my bike pump!!!!!!

I'm pissed that I bought that piece of crap thing. I was putting air in my front tire, for it to completely drain all of the air out and I finally had to take the stupid pump apart to figure out why oh why it was not giving me air, finally I got the stupid thing to work, now only to get my tire pumped half way up!!!! Ugh...... I almost broke my finger trying to get this stupid pump to work. Thats it I'm taking it back and buying a new one. ME SO FRUSTRATED!!!!!!

eh, return it. If they give you a hard time, tell them you'll return the whole bike

(you've still got ~2 weeks left on your return window)

Did you ride today? Where's the snow they said was coming?

only one you should ever own - SILCA Pista or Super !!

It is completely serviceable/parts replaceable and should last a lifetime if cared for well.

I concluded a long time ago that all floor pumps are pieces of crap.
I forgot my pump at school and was at home for the weekend, so i went out and bought a Joe Blow pump at REI. this thing is the biggest piece ever, I like my psi up there at around 120. to get it that high with this thing i have suspend my self in mid air grabbing onto the handle, so basically its holding my 170lbs body in air and not moving.

Ok, this pump is a crankbrothers pump. I have only spent two hours trying to get this to work right. NO MORE FOR ME.

Try the Planet Bike floor pumps, they have about three models. I am 137 lbs and have no trouble putting in 125 or more if I want to (usually not). I have even used it to pump up car tires several times in a pinch. So far my $15 pump (on sale) has served well for six years and I ride sewups on my road bike, so I have to add air reasonably often. I liked it so well that I got a second one for a bike I keep at my inlaws in Tucson even though I am only there for a week a year (better winter riding than Madison WI, :>).

How much can safely overinflate? Does it aid in handling and speed if you do?

overinflation is a waste of time. Increased speed, no. handling better, definitely not, less air aids handling as it increases the contact patch on the road.

Zefal has been very very good to me, both my floor pump and my frame pump. I'm always putting in 120psi. I've had both of them for 6 years and all I've had to do is replace the little rubber gasket that seals around the tube stem everytime you pop it on there. I was able to buy 10 replacements real cheap from the Zefal website.

I'll second the Planet Bike pumps. I used my frame pump all last year to get 120 psi with no problems.

I have both a Park and Airbase ... both work well up to 135 (when I am running my Vredestein tires) ... I prefer the Park because it is easier to remove from the stem.

Snowy.....

I had the same problem with the same pump. It is a POS.

here is a thread on it if you wish to read...

https://www.bikeforums.net/tandem-cycling/83823-pumps-vs-co2-inflators.html

If I may make a sexist suggestion, go with CO2 inflators or get the Topeak Morph pump. The Morph is like a mini floor pump which I think would be easier for smaller people.

I have the Crank Borthers Mini Power Turd or some POC. Hate the thing but it is just a backup if I run out of CO2 or if someone out on the road needs to use a pump.

I have a Specialized floor pump that I bought last season. I have had NO problems at all, it is stable on the floor, fast fast fast, and snaps on the presta valve easily. Another thing that I like about it is the valve head is presta on one side schrader on the other, and both work well.

I had bought a Top Peak the week before I bought the Specialized, that piece of crap went back after one use.

Snowy, it will match the new ride too!!

Thanks Galen...... I think I'm going to go with the Topeak Road Morph pump Lord Opie suggested it along with you. I'm little so I think you are right by saying it would be easier for smaller people. I couldn't get more then 60psi in my front tire. I can't ride right now cause my tire is too low. So I'm taking the one I got back and going to exchange it for the Topeak. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!!!!

I recently "purchased" a Topeak Road Morph with my $30 coupon from Performance, hence free. Man, I was amazed. To test it, I fully deflated my tire and then pumped it back to my desired PSI, 125 psi. The Road Morph's built-in gauge goes only up to 120 psi. Anyhow, after pumping about 3 times as much as a good floor pump, I measured the pressure and found that I have reached 140 PSI with the Road Morph. I have now retired my 12-year old Zefal HPX2 as a spare frame pump.

I must say "thumbs up" for the Topeak Road Morph too. It has a flip-down foot" and "flip-out-handle" that converts it to a floor type. It even has a pressure gauge that reads up to 120 psi. The gauge is a little small for my eyes (need glases to read it), but it's a nice touch in a mini pump. If you want a greater volume lf air, get a Specialized floor pump. Choose one with the pressure gauge built in. I have not had a problem with any of my pumps.

I've got an older Joe Blow and its not bad. Does the job no muss no fuss.
On road I have a Silca Imperio, its a bit feisty but I can pump up to
140psi with it no problem (just don't let go of the pump handle at the bottom
of the pump stroke, they launch really well).
Probably get a Silca Pista next (when the JB dies).

I've used a releatively cheap Cyclepro floor pump for years and I've never had trouble getting up to 120psi (and I only weigh about 135lbs). I just ordered a Topeak road morph as a frame pump for my new bike.
