2006 Specialized Tarmac Comp
 

Posted in the 50+ thread but, I thought I would post here as well.

I have an opportunity to buy a 2006 Specialized Tarmac Comp for $900. I don't have specs and pictures yet but, I wondering if the price was in the ballpark.

tough to answer without knowing the condition of the bike. do you know the seller? if the seller agrees to let you have the bike inspected before purchase that is a good thing. Is this bike listed online for sale? if so can you provide a link?

Local seller and not listed online. I will get a chance to test ride and I will insist on taking the bike to LBS to be inspected prior to paying. I will get pictures and specs to post.

I think that's a bit high if it's all stock. There was a 2010 Tarmac Pro SL on craigslist here in Portland for $1400. That's a much nicer bike and much newer for not much more money. I'd keep looking or talk them down about $250.

I agree with Knobster. Kinda on the high side - and older, weirder-lloking Tarmac frame. 6R layup. A 2010, 0r 2011 SL2 etc. have trickle down technology from winning bikes - Tour De France etc.

I'll join the chorus - for a 7yo bike it is WAY too much - wouldn't pay anything near that over here, where most things cost more than in the US.

I have just gotten back into cycling and this would be my first road bike (currently ride a Trek Fitness 7.4 FX). I am bit concerned because everything I have read states that this is more of triathlon bike. I want a road bike to get faster and keep up with other riders in my group (I am too fast for the slow group and to slow for the fast group). I also want to be able to get into drops when going against the wind on longer rides (50+ miles).

Is this really the bike for me or should I be looking for something else?

I got this 2005 Allez Comp 6 weeks ago for $600, Full Allegra Triple 9 Spd with a total of 25 miles on it.

Sold the wheels for $225.

The seller wants a fair price for the bike and is willing to negotiate.

Just not sure this is the best bike for my first road bike.

Not a Specialized rider but ride frequently with a guy on a Tarmac (a more recent S-Works version) and from what I see I think that bike will do well for you. The geometry is not super aggressive. As far as price goes: No matter how good a deal you get, somebody got a better deal and will post it for you to see. :) Having said that the asking price does seem high for a 7 year old bike. Get the bike checked out and negotiate. When that's over make your decision and, if you buy it, ride it without 2nd guessing. The money is spent.

You got to go check it out. Test ride it.

I have an '06 Sworks Tarmac - it turned me into a Tarmac junkie... (now also have an '09 expert & '11 pro)
I guess I've put 20K+ miles on it since and it feels and rides like the day I got it.
It is, by my impression, a top allround road bike. Fast when pushing hard, superb on technical descents and all day comfortable on Long (80+ mi) rides. I also have roubaixs, but go to the tarmacs most of the time (almost all of the time...)
I luv that '06 tarmac. And visually, to me it is the quitessential tarmac look.
The newer tarmacs do feel more 'race' stiff, but for most of my riding, the '06 is most often the go-to machine.
If it has mostly 10 spd shimano and, hopefully, shimano wheels; I don;t think you could get a nicer bike - if its a good size and fit for you.
Good tires (Conti GP 4000 & equivalent) and light tubes on decent wheels will make that bike fly.
Check the chain for stretch (and possible need for a new cassette) - new tires, shift cables and chain often really rejuvenate a 'tired' feeling ride.

Ok I got a chance to ride the bike and it seems to ride very nice. The seller had swapped out the original components, including wheels, for better ones and then moved the components from the Tarmac to his new Felt frame. Therefore, the components have less wear and tear than they would otherwise.

Bottom Bracket was replaced around 1 year ago

FYI - I am going to take the bike in to the LBS to make sure it will fit. Right now the only thing I think could be an issue is the stem
