Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Riding 10 mi without a saddle?

Picking up my new ride after work today. I brought the clipless shoes and shorts to change into but then I forgot...that there is no saddle on the bike, just a seatpost. Would it work if I tried to ride home without one? Distance is 10 miles.

this image popped up in my head when i read this:

Anyway i guess it depends on what kind of shape you are in. 10 miles seems kind of exhausting to stand for, and you might forget and sitdown accidentally.....OUCH!!!!

If there is a reason to use the legendary Uranus lube https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ht=uranus+lube, this is it!

Just make sure you wipe that stupid smile off your face when you get home.

Ride 10 miles without sitting on saddle: Yes
Ride 10 miles with just a seatpost: No

Ask the shop if they can lend you a junk saddle from their junk bin.

No, bikes do not work without saddles. They have a very intricate system of levers and pulleys and counterweights built into the frame that will cause the bottom bracket to lock up solid if one attempts to ride them without a saddle. The race bikes pictured above are exempt from this little known safety feature.

How the hell do you buy a bike without a saddle? Are you one of those who don't believe in tipping and now getting one?

If you can walk or run for 30 min you shouldn't have any problem riding a bike without sitting for 30 min.

The videos above aren't too bad, they're wearing riding shorts. I could sit on a seat post with a pair or riding shorts on no problem (just make sure you don't hit any potholes.)

I took the carbon saddle+seatpost off and put in a junk one for the shop to clamp while they work on it.

I assume this new ride is a used bike - with no saddle? Don't you have a saddle of your own to bring and install??

Let me guess....... you wanted a different saddle and you ordered it online, so it won't arrive for another few days but you want to pick up the bike NOW. You worked out a deal with the shop owner where if he kept the saddle he'll knock $30 off the price of the bike. I really can't think of another reason why you would end up in this predicament.
